Primary children sing, "I love to see the temple. I'm going there someday," but with little understanding of what happens once they get there. Even some adults attend the temple regularly without a clear concept of the instruction they receive. Using teachings of living prophets and the scriptures, along with her advanced scholarship of ancient traditions, symbols, and beliefs, Amy Hardison outlines the significance of temple design, covenants, clothing, names, and more as a means of helping Latter-day Saints better comprehend the sacred nature of the house of the Lord.

The best purchase I have ever made. If you want to learn and learn deep, this is the book for you. So far the only thing that really satisfied my intellect and racing mind when it comes to learning. Page turner. I really wish there were more Gospel books like this one. I like the deep stuff.
Amy Hardison has created a classic for every home library of LDS books. If you have been to the temple five times or more, you will have new insights into the historical roots of temple ordinances and symbols; the key elements of doctrine surrounding the ordinances of the temple; and the sacred ancient pillars of modern temple worship.
This book was so helpful in my study of and preparation for the temple. It was well written and I will use it for years to come! Learning about ancient temples was fascinating and I loved the connections made between ancient and modern-day temples. I loved reading about all aspects of the temple experience- architecture, layout, practices, clothing, covenants, etc. I learned so much and gained a deep appreciation for things I may have never even noticed. The Glossary of Symbols is so helpful and would be reason enough to purchase the book. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn more about the temple- before going for the first time or if you've been going your whole life.
I loved this book! I haven't read a church book in a long time, where I felt so edified, uplifted and renewed.
From the opening paragraph, it was obvious how much dedication and research, prayer and study, the author put into this work. I got the feeling that this was her life's work, studying and collating all the available revelations, articles, thoughts, history, etc. I can't imagine the amount of work that went into producing this masterpiece.
I cam away with a clearer understanding of the practices of the ancient world, the scriptures and the symbolism of the temple. The author was reverent and handled the sacredness of the subject with tact. She introduced scripture and old testament history in a way that allows temple patrons to ponder and feast on the meaning of temple ordinances.
This will be a book I read several times!
When I bought this book I certainly expected to learn a few new things about the temple. This book has far exceeded those expectations. I am only half way through the second chapter and have already gained dozens of new ways to think about the temple, its doctrines, and my temple worship. I have more than doubled my list of "ponder points" to mull, meditate and pray about as I visit the House of the Lord. This book will affect the lives of thousands of people.

As a student of life I have traveled the World with an insatiable thirst to know and understand our various religions and cultures. I have been in several Temples and taken tours and lectures that have helped me scratch the surface of the meanings of the Temple endowments....and none of that put together has helped me understand their meaning not an intellectual level, but deep in my heart until I read this fantastic book. Thanks to Amy Hardison and her Labour of Love I have done so. Now I really get it. If you are on the fence contemplating acquiring this book, go ahead. You are in for a great treat.
