Defined by Christ: Seeing Yourself Through the Eyes of the Savior
So many of us stretch our faces with smiles wide enough to mask the pain we hide. So many of us go through the motions — attending church, giving service, nurturing our families, learning and doing — while inside we feel empty, broken, doubtful, and even guilty for the way we feel. We tell ourselves that if we’d only work harder, we would somehow earn the blessings of peace, security, and unconditional love that we hunger for. But are we ever wrong! Simply by virtue of being a child of God, each of us is already loved beyond comprehension, without boundaries or conditions. Yet sadly, many of us leave this heavenly gift unopened.
Using the scriptures, words of prophets, insightful analogies, and stories drawn from poignant personal experiences, author Toni Sorenson illuminates the pathway toward opening this gift of divine love and finding lasting peace even amidst the shadows and storms of life. As we come to focus on God’s goodness rather than our own weakness, we will recognize our own infinite worth, develop confidence in the plan of happiness, strengthen our ability to identify and overcome the lies of Satan, discover the power within us to find wholeness and help others heal, and experience for ourselves how good trumps evil. No matter what our disappointment or failure or loss may be, allowing ourselves to be defined by Christ will lift us out of darkness and into His light.

I picked up this book at an LDS bookstore not really knowing anything about it other than what was written on the back cover. I had just come thru a very unexpected, unwanted divorce from my eternal companion of more than 20 yrs. EVERYTHING that this book touched on was absolutely on target with my own life....how I saw me, unloved, unlovable, unworthy...the lies said to me, and about me, were more than I could bear. 'My life' the one I had created for myself, had thrust me out and I was utterly alone...what I needed was to shift my focus and move myself into the life my Saviour had created for me. After reading this book, I felt I truly had a 'SISTER in Christ' in Toni. She knew EXACTLY how I felt having walked the same life path, and having come to understand the same truths. Wonderful book. I highly recommend it for everyone.

This year has been one of the most challenging for our family. We have been married for 20 years and have 4 wonderful children. My husband started to talk to underage girls on the internet then he got arrested and put in prison. He only typed on the internet never did he meet these girls or even want to. I never knew just typing words on the internet could ruin your life. This book has been our strength and it has shown us that Christ loves us and defines us that there is a way back and even though my husband is now a felon and a sex offender he is defined by Christ and is loved too, even though society sees him differently.

I was given this book three weeks ago during the darkest time of my entire life.
I just got out of the Utah State Prison in September of 2010 and three weeks ago something happened that made me believe I would be sent back. I became completely despondent and the adversary was berating me daily in my head just like the Pharisees berated the savior. A member of my ward knew of my despair and gave me this book. I have been reading it every day and it is the only thing that brought peace and hope back into my life. Please read this book it will transform you.
