Product Description

2014 Concert The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square join the Muppets® from Sesame Street® and guest vocalist Santino Fontana (the voice of Prince Hans in the popular Disney movie Frozen) in a celebration of the spirit of Christmas. Fontana makes his entrance on this beautifully produced show in a hot air balloon surrounded by large toy airplanes that drop from the ceiling as the Choir opens with the number "The Candyman/Pocketful of Miracles." Other standout moments are a duet with the Count and the Choir's organist, Richard Elliott, to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," a medley of songs from Sesame Street® as well as the popular "Keep Christmas With You," and hilarious hijinks and banter from the Muppets® from Sesame Street® throughout the show. This show is a world-class performance perfect for all ages as you celebrate the Christmas holiday.

  • About the Author

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square

The 360 members of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square represent men and women from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. They reflect a medley of unique lives and experiences and are brought together by their love for singing and their faith. Their incomparable voices are the common chord that unites to form the choral group known all over the world as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square originated in the mid-19th century in Salt Lake City. As the Latter-day Saints moved west, Church President Brigham Young included musicians among members of the advance parties. Consequently, a small choir first sang for a conference of the Church in the Salt Lake Valley on August 22, 1847, just 29 days after the first group arrived. The origins of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square may be found in the desire and commitment of early converts to include appropriate music in both sacred and secular events.

The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square has appeared at 13 world's fairs and expositions, performed at the inaugurations of five U.S. presidents, and sung for numerous worldwide telecasts and special events. Five of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square recordings have achieved "gold record" and two have achieved "platinum record" status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

    12 days of Christmas

I guess count von Count gets overwhelmed by birds every time. And I like how Richard Elliot puts some humor in the 12 days of Christmas especially the part with the 8th day of Christmas with the maids are milking. The crowd loved the old Macdonald tune which was pretty funny and on the 5 golden rings part too with the wedding songs.

    Pure Christmas Magic!

From the opening song, “Sing a Christmas Carol,” to the final reminder to, “Keep Christmas with you all through the year,” this concert is pure Christmas magic. Along the way we learn, with the adorable Muppets, why Christmas is more than presents, lights, and Christmas cookies. Even Cookie Monster learns to share.

Everyone is in top form—the choir, orchestra, bells, organist (Richard Elliott), singers, and dancers. The Muppets are amusing and add fun and humor to the show. Santino Fontana is a charming host and a delightful and talented performer. Special kudos to the costumes and set decorations.

Although the concert is specifically geared for children, all ages will enjoy this visual and auditory Christmas feast. It is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and lighten your spirits! Highly recommended.

    Deserves Blu Ray Release

I've huge fan of our marvelous Choir. I love their Christmas specials; they are pure magic and wonder. But if any stage production deserves a High Def 1080p Blu ray release it is this one. I know the Choir produces on its own label, and therefore they must grapple with finance issues. Nevertheless it's such a feeling of let-down when I see this appear without the powder-blu case. The Choir has produced two of its Christmas specials on Blu ray before, and has elected not to now, i'm sure for a reason. But DVD is old technology; the discs have a short lifespan in years before they begin to deteriorate. And as one's eyes become "educated" to high definition, a lessor picture simply seems like a let-down. I love this marvelous choir, but I will boycott and wait for Blu.

    Magical!
