Trek follows a young Mormon teenager named Tom and his friends on their handcart journey. Along the way, they try to smuggle in unsanctioned food, battle sibling rivalry, encounter a "special ops" Young Men leader, match wits with a Twinkie-loving skunk, and ponder doctrinal brain teasers like, "Do General Authorities go to PG-13 movies?" But, when they encounter unexpected trouble, their faith is tested much like that of their pioneer ancestors. Whether you've been on a trek or not, your family will laugh along and ultimately be inspired as you enjoy this delightful film.

I am going on trek this year and watch this movie... made me not want to go! There were some funny parts but that does not balance out the kissing and making out scenes! Very disappointed, I will never watch it again.
We sat down in family night to watch the movie. I was embarrassed to let my young children watch this.. even didn’t want my teens to watch this. I was surprised that it was in the desert book and the comments from. My children let me know I wasn’t the only one feeling this way. The strength of youth pamphlet helps us in our way and it should have been applied to this movie. We don’t need to see making out to get the point across that someone likes the other person.
This movie starts out bad, mostly just the acting and way they chose to start it, but it does get a bit better with time. The middle to end of it is the best part of the movie. It is not as bad as I would have expected over all, but it is the kind of movie that you can watch one time (or honestly not at all) and be good for life. This movie is more funny if you have actually been on Trek. I would say its good for youth and up, though some younger kids may enjoy it as well.
I really can't believe Deseret book advertised this DVD has a great movie to see with your family. We kept watching, hoping it would get better, but it didn't, except for a touching part in the middle. Siblings were disrespectful to one another, parts that were supposed to be funny were not, and characters who were making out including single adult leaders were a big turn off. What I thought would be an inspiring and uplifting show for my whole family to see, made fun of Mormon culture, and was a big turn off. Don't waste your time.
I really enjoyed Trek! It was fun to be able to watch it with my family for a home evening. Sure, it was goofy at times, but I love goofy! I also enjoyed the spiritual aspects of the film. The main characters were true to life and the comic characters were funny. I’d definitely recommend it!
This film was so unlike trek it was difficult to watch. I felt like teenagers were really disrespected as they were portrayed in this film. The characters had very little depth and there was not enough character development for a 94 minute film. It was all so stereotypical in an attempt at humor. I felt that the portrayal of "Mormon culture" was disrespectful rather than humorous. It was painful to watch. I kept waiting for it to get better but it never did.
We saw Trek in the theater and afterward my kids couldn't stop raving about it. They thought it was funny and entertaining. They haven't stopped bugging me about getting the DVD. It's a good lighthearted family movie with a positive message.
I had a whole other expectation for this movie, I thought it was going to suck. But it was actually really funny, I loved it more then I thought I would, I didn't even want to watch it, I was forced to. I would definitely recommend it.
We enjoyed the movie. Some parts were a little cheesy, but I thought it gave some good content to consider. Any way we can encourage the youth to think a little deeper and outside of themselves is a good thing.
My 14 year old loves his phone and never puts it down. We turned on TREK last night and I was completely shocked.... he put his phone down and actually watched the movie! I couldn't believe it! It was obvious he really connected with the characters in the movie and he told me he liked the movie when it was over. I was impressed by how the movie wove fun, entertainment and spirituality all into one. Thank you for such a great movie that my kids connect with and enjoy!
I love seeing young local talent making such fun movies! That's one of the great things these Mormon movies do. These kids do such a great job to make you laugh, but also to make you think! Watch the movie and not only will you love the story, but you'll fall in love with the cast! Please make more movies like this!!
I had never heard of TREK the Movie before but one of my friends posted about it on Facebook so I decided to grab it for my kids. They always watch a church movie on Sunday and they really liked this one. The music was great, it was a happy movie and they started asking me more questions about trek and if they would ever go on one when they got older. I'm glad I bought this movie and I think it will be a family favorite for years to come.
I heard great things about TREK the movie so once it came out on DVD, I sat my family down on Sunday evening and made them watch it. This movie did not disappoint. It was funny, it was real (my teenage siblings personally connected with it) and the movie even got me crying at one point! Some people take LDS movies too seriously at times and they ruin the movie because they can't just relax and enjoy the movie. Take a chill pill people! Yes, there are cheesy moments and some handcarts might be historically inaccurate, but don't worry—the church is still true and it's just a fun family movie. I will definitely be giving this as a Christmas gift for my family members this year.
Trek is a really fun story with some great performances! A heartfelt story of regaining lost faith, all wrapped up in a VERY relatable Pioneer Trek experience! It's always good to step back and take a look at mormon culture from an outside perspective. This movie lets us laugh at ourselves, but it also shows us the potency of real gospel experiences.
Such a cute movie with a lot of laughs and a great message. We watched it as a family before our stake trek and enjoyed it a lot. The acting was well done, and we even recognized a couple of our friends as extras in the background! It didn’t show all the dirt and dust that our treks in California usually experience, but the movie certainly captured a lot of the humor. I highly recommend adding it to your collection of fun lds movies. :).
This movie was wonderful - it was heartfelt, FUNNY, and hit some topics that are really important for youth today like faith and doubt in the midst of grief. It has a similar vibe to "Once I Was a Beehive," and was one of the best LDS comedies I've seen in a long time. The characters were relatable and diverse, the acting was solid, and the story was compelling. Five big stars from me!
It was enjoyable. The ending was ovious from the beginning. Some weird people in it which made it look like Mormons are nuts.
I bought the movie expecting something that would be moving and inspiring with great humor mingled in... but was greatly disappointed, The possibility was there, but was not executed well on any level. I dumped the DVD at a friend's house. Who knows; maybe they will like it.
Background music was to loud & the actors/actress could not be heard nor understood. Movie "maybe" could of been rented BUT I wish I never purchased it.
I'm an adult who has been on two pioneer treks. With teenagers in my house now, one of which just returned from trek, we were excited to purchase and watch this movie. My teenagers watched the movie by themselves in the car with head phones on our drive home from our trip to Utah. As I sat in the front seat I was surprised to not hear any laughter. When the movie ended, I asked them if they liked it. Both teenagers thought it was terrible and not what they expected from a movie purchased from Deseret Book. I tried to watch it several days later and couldnt get 30 minutes into it without turning it off. It wasnt funny, was all over the place, and the making out stuff, was not only uneccessary, but was a turn off from watching the movie altogether. I had hopes to show this movie to my "trek kids" here at a trek reunion get together but that won't be happening after all. Don't waste your time or money on this film.
