This is a second book in a series. In order to fully understand what is happening in this book, I highly recommend reading the first book, The End Begins: Sudden Darkness, before reading this one.

This book continues where the first left off. The members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints have trekked from Washington to Utah. For many of them, the journey is not over. A new government has formed and they want to take the supplies and resources of the people. Thousands make the overland journey, by handcart and wagon on the abandoned highways to find safety and shelter.

This book alternates between the two main characters, Zach and Amelie. Zach is part of a mission to take important information to Jackson County, speed and secrecy are vital to it success. Danger is always around the corner, he faces them and grows. I liked the confidence that he gained through trials.

Amelie is part of a wagon train. Her family pulls a handcart thousands of miles to reach Jackson County. Her trial is different. Her family's predicament is less danger from others, and more enduring walking through all kinds of weather, discouragement, and physical hardship.

I found "Glimmering Light" to be a fascinating book to read. It reminds me of the many modern conveniences that I take for granted. What would happen if suddenly the power grid was taken down? Margot Hovley's depiction of society, riots, and government power/control is an thought provoking. I thought it to be well thought out and realistic.

This book is religion based. The book contains violence that is not graphic.

Suspenseful with just a touch of romance~

"Terrorists attacked the US power grid" in book one, The End Begins: Sudden Darkness.

And Amelie and her family have made their way from Washington to Utah.

In the place that they were suppose to feel secure, the government is falling apart and personal safety is in question.

Amelie and the saints are now being called to Missouri; the New Jerusalem.

They accomplished a hard trek before, they can do it again...

Or can they?

Zack has joined with the Saints and has found true love with Amelie, but this time he is far away from her fulfilling a difficult and special service for the church.

He wonders daily if Amelie has found someone else; someone better than him.

Amelie too has been given a special assignment....

Suspense awaits the reader as Amelie and Zack and all others traveling with them will encounter people who are desperate...people who will do anything just to survive.

Their strength and endurance will be tested.
Lives will be lost.
Hope will be threatened.

But even then..."with the promise of a future with her true love, Zack, Amelie will find a glimmer of light amidst the bleak unrest of the nation."

"Does Missouri truly hold the key to their deliverance, or will they be forced to run forever?"

This series continues to enthrall its readers!
Captivating and thrilling!
Suspenseful with just a touch of romance.
Just like I like it :)
