"One of the most enjoyable fantasies I've read." — Christopher Paolini, Author
"The dialogue snaps and sizzles. . . like Harry Potter, Fablehaven can be read aloud in a family with as much pleasure for grownups as for children. . . Do yourself a favor, and don't miss the first novel by a writer who is clearly going to be a major figure in popular fantasy." — Orson Scott Card, New York Times Bestselling Author
"Imagination runs wild in Fablehaven. It is a lucky book that can hold this kind of story." — Obert Skye, Author of Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo
For centuries, mystical creatures of all description were gathered to a hidden refuge called Fablehaven to prevent their extinction. The sanctuary survives today as one of the last strongholds of true magic in a cynical world. Enchanting? Absolutely. Exciting? You bet. Safe? Well, actually, quite the opposite. . .
Kendra and her brother Seth have no idea their grandfather is the current caretaker of Fablehaven. Inside the gated woods, ancient laws give relative order among greedy trolls, mischievous satyrs, plotting witches, spiteful imps, and jealous fairies. However, when the rules get broken, an arcane evil is unleashed, forcing Kendra and Seth to face the greatest challenge of their lives. To save her family, Fablehaven, and perhaps the world, Kendra must find the courage to do what she fears most.
The Fablehaven series has been awarded the Mormon Letters Award, the Nevada Young Readers’ Award and Tennessee’s Volunteer State Book Award, was a finalist for Lambda Literary Award, and has been nominated for the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader’s Book Award, Hawaii’s Nene Award, New Mexico’s Land of Enchantment Book Award, the Indian Paintbrush Book Award, Colorado’s Children's Book Award, Wyoming’s Soaring Eagle Book, and the Pacific Northwest Young Reader's Choice Award.
It's really rare for me to have time to re-read something, and I've been lucky enough to have gotten to re-read 2 books. I was in charge of a summer reading group this year for kids from 3rd to 6th grades. I chose this book because it's pretty much my all time favorite middle grade series. I had so much fun finding ideas for what I could do with them, questions and what to talk about. But my favorite part was that I got to re-read this great book!
I have to say that I enjoyed reading it again just as much as I enjoyed reading it the first time. As I read it, I was struck with just how great of an author Brandon Mull really is. I love his characters, the way he describes things, his magical and mythical beasts, his imagination, and the plot is just fabulous!
I love Kendra! I love how she's the tame normal one and how she's always trying to reign Seth back in from his crazy ideas. But I also love her courage that shows when she needs it to the very most. I love the way the author uses her to pull in the girl readers as well as the boys.
I love Seth! His sense of adventure is so high. He's always doing something he shouldn't be. He's wild and crazy and he figures if something goes wrong, it can always be fixed. He's the kind of guy you'd want to have your back if you ever got into trouble, because he can get out of trouble almost as fast as he can get into it.
I'm so glad I got a chance to re-read this one, it's just amazing!
GREAT BOOK!!! my grandmother bought the whole series for me and i read every letter of every page of every chapter of every book!!! very good book. beats harry potter by far!!!!!! hope they make a movie of this book and the Beyonoders too!!! both great books and i hope whoever reads this reads both series and loves them. these books just show that Brandon Mull has a way with stories.

This book is such a great work of fantasy and imagination. I have read my share of fantasy including the Inheritance books by Christopher Paolini and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling and this book, although different, kept my attention much the same as those other books and I couldn't wait to read the next one! I would recommend Fablehaven to anyone of pre teenage age to adults.
What an awesome book. The adventures are great. The way the book is written and the way things are discovered are amazing. I didn't think that I would enjoy reading this as much as I do. It's one that I can't put down. I can't tell you what it's about, you just have to find out for yourself. It's that good. I can't wait to read the next volumes in the series.
I love this book! When I started reading it, I was hooked within the first chapter. I finished the book within a week, and wanted the second one immediately! I have finished all the books in the series that are out now, and hope there will be more soon. I rate this book a thumbs up!
Suspense, intriguing, they can't put the books down!
As a parent you can't go wrong buying these books, they'll read them again and again.
I love the storyline and what an orignal idea! I couldn't put it down. Look out JK Rowling, you have a competitor!
My husband recommended this book to me. It is filled with gospel parallels. The author thoroughly explores obedience and consequences in a way that even small children can understand. I can't wait to read this to my boys!
When my parents got me this book for Christmas one year I was so thrilled!Whithin two pages I was hooked!
i wasn't sure in the begining if i was going to lkie but it turns out that i couldn't put it down.
A vivid recreation of a fantasy world I'd love to visit!
This book keeps try to being a children's book, but is easily enjoyed by teens and adults.
A wonderful journey into the fantasy world that brings in excitement and thrills, lessons and learning, and pure enjoyment!
Although it is a shade shy of Rowlings immagination, don't be fooled. It has plenty of fun, adventure, AND immagination. Plus, it is better written than Rowlings HP series.
Great Reading! 5 Stars!
I absolutely loved this book it was amazing. Right off the bat it gets you hooked on it. If you don't like this then you won't like any book.
On a recent vacation, our family listened to Fablehaven on CD. Our entire family loved it! We were captivated by the story, characters, and the magic of it all. It was so fun to listen to. Usually we hear the familiar, "Are we there yet?" or "I need to use the bathroom." but this time we heard, "Do we HAVE to stop?" When we arrived home and pulled into the garage we hadn't quite finished the story. The kids asked if they could just stay in the car and listen until it was over! Listening to Fablehaven made our drive so much more enjoyable. It's a great story that I would recommend to all!
AWESOME BOOK LOVE IT it has funny creatures funny looking people and a wierd creepy demon thing
Was quite surprised to pick up this book. I thought it would be too much for kids. While I ended up reading it to my kids for bedtime, I ended up enjoying it just as much. The book is well-written and very easy to understand. The plots flows well and you really identify with the characters. Though why is Seth always so stupid, as my kids astutely pointed out? Nonetheless, I thought it was a good successor to the Harry Potter series.
Everyone in our family has read and loved this book--highly recommend it for all ages.
This book is awesome!!!I recommend it to any one of all ages!! This book gave me chills. After I read this I second one, now I've already Pre-ordered the 3rd one!!!!!
I have fond memories of my Grandma reading novels to my sisters and I when we were kids and I wanted my children to have that kind of a memory also. So with this book, I have started a new tradition in reading aloud to my children right before bed time. I have a 10 year old son who has not really liked to read and I have tried to get him to understand that you can escape and get lost in a book. With this book, he is just as into it and gets lost in it with the rest of us, and I LOVE that. I love this book and recommend it to all of my friends and family. Thank you Brandon for a world that children, as well as adults can get 'lost in'.
Mull writes a good book. I can't say that I am as addicted to his books as I was to Harry Potter, but that might be more timing than anything else. I read them to my boys and they like them a lot. They ask me to read every night. There are no references to the church or church teachings, but there are moral lessons given by the characters or situations. Anyone could read this book. Give it as a gift and be thankful you can trust an author not to embarrass you by putting inappropriate things in the book. I have the hardest time finding spy thrillers for my mother without also giving her the swear words or sexual scenes. Mull is a safe way to entertain people who love fantasy. Even Harry Potter has bad words. Fablehaven doesn't have any bad stuff.
