Very exciting book!
I don’t think I’ve ever felt so conflicted by a story before. Part of me is cheering for the achievements of the Nazi party but also dreading the result of that. Surprisingly feeling empathy for Frank in his conflict with Celeste....

But something that annoys me about this author is how he leaves out some of the best moments eg, weddings, births, confrontations , especially at the end..., it was rushed. I’m hoping in the next novel some of these last moments will be explained further and we will feel the satisfaction of these confrontations.

Mister Lund never ceases to impress me...
As the novels in this series progress, I keep getting further and further to the edge of my seat and my appetite for more gets wetter.
The two simultaneous stories on both sides of the Atlantic are getting such that the pages keep turning and turning.
The history of the German people between the two world wars has always been fascinating to me and it feels that you are right there witnessing the history.
Mister Lund has a gift of capturing the emotion of people who lived during the time, like the perplexity of someone who may have millions and within 2-3 days may be out living in the street.
Or illustrating the adrenaline and gumption of witnessing a political figure who some may view as a savior to a nation, but turns out to be a power-mad despot.
I hope the following novels come quick. I can hardly wait.
Thank you, Mr. Lund

A fantastic read!

I loved this book! It was amazing to be educated about historical facts happening in Germany as Hitler rose to power from the perspective of the characters involved. The struggle between what was right and what was wrong was so relatable to what I see happening in the world today. Clearly Hitler was evil as were his intentions, yet he was still able to convince so many to follow him. Even truly good people. It was only those who had enough light inside of them who could see through him and descern what was really happening. It's such an important thing for us to understand, lest history repeats itself (as it has always done) and so we ourselves are not deceived.

I found the story of the family in the US very relatable and at some points, what they were experiencing felt like it was pulled right of scenes from today. It made me wonder how in tune I am with what is happening in other parts of the world and what my role and responsibility is as someone who has light and truth.

Very thought provoking! A fantastic read

Love this new book in one of my favorite series!

Wow, I really love this whole series! I loved the way this book describes a lot of the causes of not only the rise of Hitler in Germany but also the great Depression that was here in America. I was able to understand these events in a way that I never really have before, even in history class, because of the way the characters interact with each other. It made that whole time period really jump off the pages for me.

I love the way this story is told from so many different perspectives. It made it so I really understood what was going on in the world from all different angles. I'm kind of astounded at the amount of research that would have gone into this to get so many different perspectives about what was going on in so many places around the world.

I really love the characters. I love Hans and Emilee. Their family grows by quite a bit, both number wise and really through their experiences in this one. I love that you really get a front row seat to the rise of Hitler through Hans and you're able to see just why the people followed him and wanted him to be their leader, even good people. I hadn't really realized that Hitler had been sent to prison for treason before he was the leader of Germany. But that's some of what goes on in this one. I'm realizing that there is quite a lot I didn't know.

And the Westlands are some of my favorite characters that Gerald Lund has written. I love the way they're just normal people. They have no pretenses and their family is pretty amazing. I really enjoyed seeing things in this one from Frank's perspective. His is one that hasn't really been shown before. Frank and Celeste's parts were some of my favorite parts of the book.

This is an amazing book! I loved all of it and I'm hoping for the next volume soon!
