I have all of David Ridges gospel study books. I have used them for personal enlightenment and to help teach lessons or help others with questions. However when I purchased this book right off I noticed something that was not right. When answering a question from a parent about children and their choices /effects of choices, he quotes a scripture from the doctrine and covenants that states that they will remain single and alone for eternity. Brother Ridges states that means that they will not be able to associate with family even though sealed and that all will be basically cut off from those who are in a higher kingdom . This scripture refers to those who have not participated in celestial marriage, not those who have made different choices. "132: 17 For these angels did not abide my law; therefore, they cannot be enlarged, but remain separately and singly, without exaltation, in their saved condition, to all eternity; and from henceforth are not gods, but are angels of God forever and ever."
Brother Ridges misconstrues the meaning of this scripture, in my mind. Also there have been several General Authorities and recent prophets who have stated that through the faith and diligence of righteous parents the sealing power pf the righteous will reach out to their children . Perhaps he interprets the scriptures to have the meaning he suggests, but in doing so ignores the teachings of modern day prophets and apostles and takes the scriptures out of context. For all parents struggling in their hearts with children whom they long to associate with through this life and the next, I suggest sticking with teachings of those who have authority to speak in the Lords name.
