He Restoreth My Soul
Technology has accelerated our fascination with pleasure. Indeed, the power of pleasure has been underestimated, and Internet pornography is changing the world in a fundamental way.
In this book, author Donald L. Hilton Jr., MD explores the destructive power of pornography addiction, not just from a moral and spiritual perspective, but with the scrutiny of modern science. Current research tells us that there is little difference in physical or chemical changes in the pleasure and control centers of the brain regardless of whether the addiction is "from a chemical or an experience," as stated in the journal Science. (Constance Holden, "Behavioral Addictions: Do They Exist? Science, 294 2 November 2001, 980.)
Relying on the latest research on addiction, and merging this knowledge with spiritual aspects of repentance and recovery, the author provides understanding and hope to those who seek healing and restoration of both body and spirit, which are the "soul of man."

He Restoreth my Soul, is one of the most informative and helpful books written to date on the subject of sexual / pornography addiction. This is a must read by all who have been afflicted by pornography, the “plague of this generation”. Don Hilton the author of this is actually donating the proceeds of his book to SA Lifeline Foundation a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit dedicated to helping those that struggle with Pornography Addiction, as well as educating the general population of the effects of pornography.

I am a recovering addict to pornography. Through a recent separation and eventually divorce, I finally learned that I could only hope to win my battle over pornography through relying on the Lord.
He Restoreth My Soul was a huge eye opener to me. It shares in great detail the physical, emotional, and spiritual effects of an addiction to pornography.
Written by a brain surgeon, this book first talks about the fact that pornography is literally an addictive drug, and makes a valid argument for classifying it as such.
The second part of the book, the most important part, details the spiritual aspects of recovering from a pornography addiction.
One of my favorite parts are the actual interviews of people in and couples assisting each other in recovering from these addictions.
If you are an addict, this book is for you. If you are a loved one of an addict, it's also for you. If you are a spouse of an addict, you need this just as much as they do.
With support groups, reliance on the Lord, and the willingness to change your life, recovery is possible.

I am a recovering pornography addict who was introduced to pornography as a 12-13 year-old boy and was thereafter involved off-and-on for 40+ years. In all my struggles to overcome this addition using my own willpower, I finally realized I could not do it myself and was therefore an addict. I did not understand what had happened to me, especially in my very early years when simple curiosity got me into such deep trouble.
This book made clear to me what had and was happening to me physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It and the 12-step Pornography Addition Recovery program run by the LDS church helped me change my life around and I have personally witnessed the true meaning of the phrase "He Restoreth My Soul", for Jesus Christ has indeed healed me "both body and spirit", which "are the soul of man"!
After understanding that my behavior had actually physically modified my brain and damaged it with respect to its processing of the sensation of pleasure, that the loss of the Spirit blocked my ability to feel the tender feelings of the heart for which I longed, and that I had to turn over my will to Christ in order for His atonement to heal me, I was able to do so and see and feel the healing of my soul so I no longer felt the cravings of this powerful addition nor the desire to indulge in it.
If you are involved in pornography, please read this book! It will instruct you on how all addictions affect the brain, what damage addictions do to the human brain physically, why this damage creates the addiction's powerful cravings, and why pornography is the most powerful addiction of all. It also instructs you in the spiritual aspects of addiction and addiction recovery, and urges you to seek help through the 12-step recovery program where you basically learn how to really repent, line upon line, until Christ and His Atonement can heal you and do for you what we all cannot do for ourselves.
This is a great and wonderful book and I, for one, am very glad someone introduced it to me; it and 12-step changed my life!
