"Anyone in need of a breather might like to give this a try. It's the real deal."
"The Mormon Tabernacle Choir keep(s)alive that 1950s tradition of those mighty choruses with their heartland-of-America sentiments." - Buffalo News
Heavensong features beloved classical selections that will lift and transport you through a journey of light and hope. From new Mack Wilberg compositions to familiar melodies to “The Prayer,” this music is perfect for quiet contemplation. Heavensong is a poignant and beautiful offering unlike anything the Choir has recorded—longtime fans and new listeners alike will be captivated by this sublime musical feast.
One of the most beautiful MTC albums I've ever listened to. Just takes your breath away. The voices of angels.
The selections and arrangements speak to my soul. I LOVE the albums released under Mach Wilburg's direction - whereas previous albums were very good but I didn't get excited about them. I'm a "new sound" fan! I have it on CD - maybe it sounds better than some downloads?
I have always loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but I must admit I do not like the new sound. It sounds juvenile. I believe this may be due to a lot of vowels that are slightly spread or unfocused, and to what appears to be a deliberate attempt to produce a "lighter" sound. I think it hampers the choir in its attempt to express anything other than children's songs. I would love to see them return to the rich, powerful, noble, and dignified sound of the past.
I was very excited to hear this album. It contains some of my all time favorite songs. However, I'm a little baffled by the choirs "new" sound. Don't get me wrong I'm not longing for the old sound of previous generations- warbly sopranos and all, but the tone quality is SO light and airy it almost sounded juvenile to me. There were times when I couldn't believe I was listening to MoTab. I'm all for giving the choir a younger, lighter sound, but I think perhaps they went too far with this one. However, the selections they've chosen are marvelous. So I'll keep listening.
I happened to load this CD in my system to play before another Tabernacle Choir album of Hymns. The contrast between the two recordings is staggering. In the Hymns CD, you can hear individual voices, sometimes their intonation if off - just under the note they were aiming for. The recording makes them sound harsh and loud and without any nuance whatsoever. Heavensong is just wonderful - they sing as one voice and the result is a softening of the spirit in our home, an uplifting of our hearts in a gentle way, different than the effect the Hymns CD has on us. It's remarkable and I recommend that, if you have the means, this is one CD you will never regret buying. As it plays, the Spirit seems to spread out over the people and throughout the room, reaching out to pull you into a celestial feeling. Thank you, Choir, for this stand-out CD. It makes a tangible, and very real difference in the spirit in our home and hearts.
Sh-h-h-h-h...this more than just the MoTab singing--angels from heaven came down during the recording sessions and helped them out. That's the only way I can explain the beauty of this music. I have no idea how they are ever going to top this one.
Every morning we awake to this music. It starts the day well.
Great to listen to on a Sunday or a lazy snow day!
If you downloaded this album from Deseretbook.com in early January you may have a mono download. I just went back and re-downloaded the album and the problem has been fixed. You can re-download for 30 days after purchase.
"Heavensong" is the perfect title for this peaceful and heart touching ablum. We play it throughout the day loving the sweet peace it brings into our home. Every selection is stirring.
Music is beautiful, but the sound quality of the downloads is atrocious. Sounds like it was recorded on an old phonograph. There were previously several other reviews that complained about the same thing. How come they have been deleted from the reviews?
I was told by a choir member this was supposed to be "the best" recording ever. I assumed that was the usual hype for a new album.
I have to say it really is the most gorgeous sound I have heard yet from the choir. I have my favorite recordings but this is now near the top of all time. It has an amazing power of peace and beauty that takes me to a different place. I let it play all day when I was working at home last week and I never got tired of it. I kept wanting to listen to it, more and more. It is absolutely gorgeous, powerful and heavenly. This is a must-buy for your collection. I highly recommend it to all.
Maybe the comment about the mono microphone is the answer to my concern. I have never heard the tabernacle choir sing with such young sounding voices. They sounded like the Mormon Youth Choir. Where is the rich full soprano sound that is so distinct...was it the way it was recorded? I hope this isn't their new sound.
I downloaded this cd. It is most beautiful and peaceful and heavenly. However, it sometimes hard to catch all the words. I read in one review where the words to the songs are included with the cd when purchased. I would really appreciate the opportunity to have the ability to be able to print the words to the songs when we download a cd.
The downloaded tracks literally sound like they were recorded with a mono microphone in 1947
A gorgeous recording of some of the loveliest pieces of music you'll ever hear. I'm blown away! (And yes, it does come lyrics printed in the CD booklet.)
I bought this recording yesterday and I know already it's going to be among my favorites. I hadn't been terribly familiar before with "The Prayer" but I really like it. All of the rest of the selections are wonderful as well. I also especially appreciate the selections by Mack Wilberg with David Warner texts. I've never heard one of his texts that I haven't absolutely loved.
The overall feeling of this CD seems to be one of contemplation and reflection and it really resonates with me. The pictures in the booklet as well as the cover art are exceptional. I know that's not the prime motivating factor for a CD but I just have to say that whoever created the cover art really captured the picture of the music.
This is my new favorite. The song selections are beautiful and moving. This is a great CD for relaxing and "being still".
Loved it. Please try to include a little sheet of the words to the music in the cd's so that we can be more fully enlightened as we enjoy the melody. As is typical with choirs, unless you know the lyrics it's not always easy to discern each word. Thank you.
