Published in every edition of the Book of Mormon are the testimonies of eight witnesses who saw the metal plates from which the prophet Joseph Smith translated the ancient scriptural account and of three witnesses who not only saw the plates but who were shown them by an angel. Who were these witnesses? Can we take their testimonies seriously?
In this carefully researched, thought-provoking book, Dr. Richard Lloyd Anderson presents evidence from original sources on each of the eleven witnesses and concludes: “Statements clearly traced to the witnesses verify the testimonies printed in the Book of Mormon . . . After years of working with their lives and their words, I am deeply convinced that their printed testimonies must be taken at face value.”
This book is a goldmine. The research that went into this book was very thorough. The methodology was clearly explained and is very sound. Anyone that has a spec of honesty in their soul has to at least consider the possibility that these witnesses really saw the plates as they claimed throughout their lives. For the believer, it will add solid evidence to your testimony. You will also improve your ability to evaluate historical claims and better sift through much of the pseudo-history that is out there. I highly recommend this book.
