Masterfully put together and well thought out. If you want to gain a better testimony of Joseph Smith, this is the book. This will be marked to be listened to again.
Knowing more of the calling and life of our Prophet has been a blessing to my life, i recommend this lecture to any member of the Church of Jesús Christ of Latter Day Saints,
These talks about the life of the prophet Joseph Smith will definitely strengthen your testimony of the calling of the prophet. The stories are carefully researched and masterfully delivered. Truly a classic for anyone who loves the prophet Joseph.
This is the first book I've read all the way through on Joseph Smith. It's a book you would want to read multiple times. In Dr. Madsen's lectures he presents a very interesting side of Joseph that we don't often talk about. I loved his stories about Joseph's humor, his amazing intelligence and love for his brethren. After reading this you won't look at Joseph Smith the same again. Good read.
This CD is the lectures given at the BYU Education week in 1978 and that were issued on 4 cassettes in the 80's.
These talks are great for getting a look at the early church and learning much about Joseph Smith. Madsen has a strong testimony of the Prophet
This is I must have for anyone wanting to know more about the prophet Joseph Smith. Also highly recomended for missionarys.
Truman G. Madsen in my opinion is simply the best and most informative person when it comes to the life of Joseph Smith. This book will keep you entertained, and wanting to come back for more. You will walk away with a greater appreciation for the life of Joseph Smith, and come to better understand what he went through. I highly recommend this book!
It is amazing how much of this information I had never heard before.
An informative look into Joseph Smith's life. You really get to know him by listening to this talk.
This CD, 'Joseph Smith, The Prophet', a discussion given by Truman G. Madsen is truly the best resource on the prophet. His knowledge and appreciation for Joseph Smith brings his discussion alive. He is able to keep the attention of his audience by being dramatic and outgoing in his delivery. In having listened to these set of CDs more than twice I have learned something new each time. The only problem with the CDs is that you do not have the citations available as you would in the book format. (Which is the reasoning behind given this format a four rather than a five)Other than that fact the content and discussion is excellent, and I highly recommend it as a resource for further knowledge on the prophet's life and teachings. *As a side note I would also recommend Mark L. McConkie's discussions on 'Joseph Smith Prophet of the Restoration'.*
Of all the talks on CD that are available at Deseret Book, I would buy this one first.
If you are a non-reader like myself, then you will love this book on CD. I have read this CD 118 times. The words, 'Joseph Smith the Prophet' never gets old.' If you don't know a word, just pop in you Webster's Dictionary CD.
I first heard these tapes on my mission (as I'm sure most missionaries have), and I was amazed at how these brought the Prophet Joseph and Church History alive to me. Truman Madsen's delivery of these gems is well done. He keeps us licking our chops for the next tasty tidbit. Excellent!
