"Allen turns Sleeping Beauty’s passive story upside down with Isla’s active competence and frustration with how the curse interferes with her work; fans of strong heroines will be deeply satisfied." — Publishers Weekly, starred review
A steampunk Sleeping Beauty story from the author of Beauty and the Clockwork Beast.
Doctor Isla Cooper is cursed. Literally. Each night, at the stroke of midnight she falls into a death-like sleep from which she cannot be awakened for six hours. To make it worse, the curse has an expiration date--after a year, it becomes permanent. And the year is almost up.
In a desperate attempt to find Malette—the witch who cursed her—Isla blackmails her way onto Daniel Pickett's private airship bound for the Caribbean, only to discover she's traveling with three illegal shapeshifters and the despicable Nigel Crowe, a government official determined to hunt down and exterminate every shapeshifter in England. Isla and Daniel must work together to keep the identities of the shapeshifters hidden while coming to terms with their own hidden secrets, and their blossoming attraction to each other.
Filled with suspense, intrigue, and plenty of romance, Kiss of the Spindle is steampunk Sleeping Beauty story. It is a race against the clock as Isla and Daniel try to hunt down the elusive Malette before Isla's death-like sleep becomes permanent.

I love these techno romances! I read the author’s first one and loved it. I enjoyed the twists and similarities to Sleeping Beauty. So fun.
The story is entertaining and imaginative. Very enjoyable. Love this author and the reader both!
Love steampunk and although I don't care for the Sleeping Beauty story, this was a great twist that I loved. Nancy Campbell Allen is an amazing author.
It took me a quick minute or two to get into this book but once I did, I was hooked. I couldn't put it down. The story builds and builds until by the end I was feeling quite frantic and desperate. It was so exciting! I love when that happens.
I love that Nancy Campbell Allen is writing these steampunk romances loosely based on classic fairy tales. It gives everything such a fun twist.
The relationship and chemistry between Isla and Daniel was also one that kept building. I loved the explosive first kiss (😍) but mostly I loved how devoted Daniel was to Isla once he learned how vulnerable she was because of her curse. He was so sweet, so invested in her. I just LOVED him.
Yup, this was a good one! I'm so excited to see what's coming next!
Content: some violence, kissing

Wow. This is the first steampunk book I've ventured to read, and it was such a fun ride! It took me a little bit to get comfortable with the some of the terminology and concepts, but the story and characters immediately grabbed me and pulled me into the intriguing plot. I loved Isla's grit, confidence, and determination. I loved Daniel's strength, charisma, and protective nature. I loved the dynamics between the passengers on the airship, the race against time, and the mysterious spell that Isla is desperate to reverse. The friendship and romance between Isla and Daniel develops naturally but swiftly, and their chemistry was amazing! I appreciated that they allowed themselves to be vulnerable with each other; it instilled a foundation of trust in their relationship that made the quick timeline work for me. The adventure was epic and this book would make such a great movie! Highly recommend!

Everytime I read a steampunk novel I smile, and this romance is no exception. I wasn't sure how a steampunk version of Sleeping Beauty would be pulled off, but this was done brillantly. I loved Isla. I loved Daniel. I loved how they had to grow to trust each other dispite the blackmail involved. It was fantastic from page one to the end. There was even a twist that played out very nicely. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good romance teamed with adventure, suspense, secrets, and more.
I have been waiting for this book ever since Beauty & the Clockwork Beast! While I absolutely adore any book written by Nancy Campbell Allen, these steampunk fairy tales are the best! What a treat to be able to read this book. It didn’t disappoint—in fact, I love how the author is able to surprise and impress me every time. Her characters in this book are fantastic, and the setting just great. The best part, of course, is the twist on the fairy tale. Well done!! Read this book! You’ll love it.
Steampunk isn't typically my genre of choice, but I'm a huge fan of Proper Romance novels, so I jumped at the chance to read Nancy Campbell Allen's latest novel, Kiss of the Spindle. An additional incentive was that my favorite childhood Disney cartoon was "Sleeping Beauty", and I was excited to see what Allen would do with her Steampunk version.
I really like what Allen did with this story. I liked the spin on Isla's condition-that she slept like the dead every night. A spindle is involved in the story, but not in the way Disney used it.
The characters were great-we don't get the three good fairies, but the three supporting character's that Daniel is transporting really add a lot to the story.
This wasn't the type of story that I couldn't put down, but it was enjoyable.
I read Beauty and the Clockwork Beast a couple of years ago and I LOVED it! When I saw that Nancy Campbell Allen had a new Steampunk romance coming out, I was so excited! This book is amazing! I might have to say that it’s my favorite I’ve read this year so far, and I almost never pick favorites!
Kiss of the Spindle introduces us to Isla. I loved her character. She’s spunky and pretty much does whatever she wants, whether it’s smart or not. Plus she knows how to use all sorts of weapons, they come in handy in her job as a Doctor of Shifter Therapy and Human Relations. That’s a big title, but basically she’s a bounty hunter searching for those shifters, werewolves, that attack humans and leave a mess. Isla has a small problem though, she falls asleep at midnight and is literally as if she is dead until 6 am. That messes with her job. And her friend is concerned that after a year of that, she’ll sleep all the time, never to wake again.
That’s where Daniel Pickett comes in. He owns Pickett Airships and Isla must take an airplane to Port Lucy to see if she can find the witch who cast a spell on her and get it reversed. I loved the way she used all of her resources to blackmail him into taking her on his private airship. But he’s no fool. He knows that there is something she needs and he won’t stop trying to figure it out. I loved the way he cares for her when he realizes her problem. He stays by her side as she sleeps to protect her.
There is plenty of danger and action in this book! I loved all of the characters, even the shifters. I loved the way the author includes little nods to Disney’s Sleeping Beauty cartoon. Those were so much fun to watch for!
I really loved the whole book. Like I said before Kiss of the Spindle is currently my favorite book from this year! Make sure to get your own copy and see how much fun Steampunk romance can be!
I purchased this book as soon as it hit the shelves at my local DB. I was super impressed by her first novel based on Beauty and the Beast. That said, I would not recommend this book to anyone simply because I disturbed by the way Daniel is aroused by the thought of Isla using weapons in "romantic" situations. However, the overall storyline was a very creative re-telling of Sleeping Beauty.
