Great historical fiction that I'll read again and again for many Christmases to come!
By , Submitted on 2018-02-01

This little book was one of the only things I actually asked for for Christmas this last year. I'm so glad that I got it and that I was able to read Lieutenant Terry's story!

The author is such a master at the way he writes this kind of book. The way he does it, the circumstances and the characters almost jump off the page. I was so worried for Lieutenant Terry when I realized he'd been captured by the Germans. And when he makes his decision to act as he knew the Savior would have him act, I was so happy. I could sense his happiness as those he shared with realized what he was doing with his precious treat that he won.

I love that there are little illustrations peppered throughout the pages, and they're all drawn by Lieutenant Terry himself. That makes the book even more special.

I love that this is a short book. It's one I plan to read over and over during many Christmases to come!

Must read

If you enjoy reading about great men and women and WW ll you will love this book. I knew Wendell and Bev Terry and so I had heard some of the stories in the book but Gerald Lund made me see them in a powerful way.

Lieutenant Terry's Christmas Fudge

Such a beautiful message in this little book! As I read the account of Lieutenant Terry and his beloved bride, I was strengthened by their simple, yet powerful faith they both had during a very difficult time in their lives. The Christlike love that Lieutenant Terry showed to his fellow POW's was a reminder to me that I can be grateful in any circumstance and that the Lord is in the details of our lives. This is truly a book to be enjoyed year round, not just at Christmas!

This is a book that can be read anytime of the year, it is a story about a man and his life experiences regarding getting married, going off to war, his family life, and small bit about Christmas. I loved the history aspect of this story and life story of Lieutenant Terry. In addition, I loved the spirituality that was also brought into the book. I loved the story regarding his friend Art and the inspiration he received. It was an easy and enjoyable read.

I absolutely love this book from beginning to end. Grateful for the little sketches and drawings and pieces of reality that were put into the book. There were many trials but the FAITH that Mike and Bev had was so inspiring to me. It’s always interesting to learn more about the war and those who are held prisoner. The story of his Christmas Fudge and the gift it was to so many truly made me weep I look forward to sharing the story with my family!

Inspiring War Story
By , Submitted on 2017-10-05

Lt. Terry is a remarkable man who rose above the terrible circumstances he found himself in during his life.. The "Christmas Fudge" part of this book is actually just a small part of his story, but is the most touching and poignant. This is an inspiring story of perseverance and courage. Lt. Terry's outlook and love of the Savior no doubt buoyed him up during his time in World War II, including time spent as a German POW. I am always amazed by what our military men and women endure and Lt. Terry's story is no exception. This book is actually a summary of Lt. Terry's life from when he met his wife, got married, trained and was sent overseas as a fighter pilot,, and then some of his experiences in the war. This isn't necessarily a "Christmas" book, but really a book of someone's trials and how they overcame them by remembering what the Savior taught and trying to be more like Him. I found this story very interesting and there are some great words of wisdom that are applicable to everyone.

I enjoyed reading about Lt. Terry and his example as a true follower of Christ. WW II experiences and stories need to be told and retold to all generations. Truly a great man who followed Christ.

Heart Warming Christmas Story

I enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end. I loved how the lessons the main character learned as a youth helped prepare him for a safe return from the war. His Christmas experience brought a touch of humanity to life as a POW. This book is a quick and inspiring read.

This was a great read that entertained, educated, and also uplifted. A true story of a young man who became a WW2 bomber pilot, and we follow him as he is shot down and placed in a german stalag. How these men celebrated Christmas in such awful circumstances was a reminder to me of what the important things are.

This was a very intriguing story. It is a quick read with a powerful impact. The details of the plane functions and various jobs of the airmen were easily understood and very helpful to fuel the imagination. Lieutenant Terry's faith was motivational for me. The Christmas fudge story was emotional and inspired me to think of my own selfishness with a desire to do better. You will enjoy it.

Not just a Christmas Story
By , Submitted on 2017-09-24

I hardly made it through the preface before I realized that this would be an emotionally charged, yet powerful book.
This is a nonfiction book so it is written in third person. In my opinion the narration style slightly diminishes the emotional impact of the book, although I'm not sure how the author could have told the story better. The book is well written but the style is drier then other historical fiction books written by Lund.
The story follows LT. Terry from birth to death and how the WWII impacted his life, with the climax being the story of the Christmas fudge. Although the title implies a Christmas theme, It is more of a war story that highlights Christmas for a few pages and could be enjoyed anytime of the year.
The story is short and focuses on the blessings and protection that Heavenly Father offers to those who listen to His counsel. The author does well to blend tidbits of history outside of LT. Terry's life to give context and feelings to the story. It is possible some of that may be lost on readers who are not as familiar with WW2 time period and culture.

All in all it is a good read and I recommend it to anyone who has a love of history and God.

Lieutenant Terry's Christmas Fudge

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons. One, I love Christmas, and this book was a very different story of Christmas. Two, I love Gerald Lund's ability to write a wonderful story, and yet explain in detail what is happening. Three, I love the World War II jenra, and learned a lot about the pilots and planes of that era. Fourth, I loved the spiritual aspect of the book, as it really affirms the fact that God does know us individually. I read it one afternoon and it was a great escape from normal life for awhile. The story of Lieutenant Terry and his sweet young wife, plus the story of a prison camp in Germany, is one you will find enjoyable. I will definately think of it this Christmas as I make my own fudge!

In true Gerald Lund style, I was captivated in the first couple of paragraphs. This was an easy read but very compelling. For those with little background about World War II, the details were great. I learned a great deal about the bomber jets and the responsibilities of each position. This was a real testimony builder and when I recalled that it was a true story, I was even more touched. I would recommend this book to everyone teenager and older. A great read.

What a great book! It is easy reading and keeps you wanting more, I completed the book in 2 sittings, I had to find out what happens next! The book was written beautifully, it explained every detail so those unfamiliar with war, planes, lifestyles of previous generations in a way to keep you interested, not realizing the scenes and plot are being laid out. This is a testimony building book, a feel good book and even under the circumstances of Terry, it was very uplifting and inspiring. I would highly recommend this book, I think ages 12 and up can appreciate the inspiring lesson.
