The concept of priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is unique. A portion of God's power is delegated to "individuals who He knows perfectly well are imperfect." How does that work? As authors Dale and Ruth Renlund ask, "How is it conceivable that His awesome, delicate power could be used by both an illiterate farmer and a rocket scientist—to equal effect—in the salvation of humankind?"
This helpful book "has arisen in large part from questions we have asked each other over the years," write Elder and Sister Renlund. "The quest for an understanding of the priesthood and its proper application has continued through our respective medical and legal training and our careers outside of the home. A fuller understanding and application of the priesthood power has required both of us to work together inside our home."
Understanding the doctrine of the priesthood and the principles that govern its use is a pursuit worth of any member of the Church, but one that should be of special concern to those who hold or are preparing to hold the Melchizedek Priesthood. This careful explanation offers a perfect way to enhance your knowledge and appreciation of priesthood power and how to use it.

An excellent book on the Preisthood. It's a good book for men and women. It's especially good for converts and new priesthood holders.
This book was well written and taught me things about the Melchizedek Priesthood i didn't know. Learning at least one new things is all I want from a book. This book teaches more than one thing and leaves the reader feeling more educated and inspired about the subject. I highly recommend it!
Great content! But the audio book is like listening to paint dry. Isaiah has nothing on this audio.
I purchased this book for my husband. He didn't enjoy it much although he felt there was some interesting points especially as regards to items pertaining to Ward Councils.
This book is a great read. It helped me better understand the meaning of the priesthood and how I can be a better priesthood holder. I would recommend it to anyone. It also made me feel a deep respect and love for Elder and Sister Renlund.
The subject matter is sacred to me, but I was disappointed by this book's lack of depth. Safe, sterile, generic summaries of the priesthood are already widely available across the church's many manuals and conference talks.
A superb book for those wanting to understand and know the Priesthood of Heavenly Father. It will help to make one a stronger priesthood holder and minister of Heavenly Fathers and the Savior's gospel.
I found it to be very inspiring.
If you are interested in learning more about the priesthood, you will not be disappointed.
A great book for gaining greater appreciation, deeper understanding, and gain deeper blessings of the Melchizedek Priesthood. It is a great book for people starting out, struggling with priesthood questions, or just looking to deepen understanding and appreciation of the miracles blessing of the Melchizedek Priesthood.
Immediately purchased the book to assist in preparing a lesson. For the most part, the book flowed very well as the Renlund's presented in-depth information and research, and I appreciated their consuming efforts to bring enlightenment to the subject. If a second edition is printed, may I suggest that the Preface's first paragraph not compare illiterate to a specific profession. Editor missed that one. That aside, I turned the page. Thank you for the ending opinion in footnote #3 of Introduction. Renlund's went on to prove the doctrine. Footnotes are gems. My guess is that a great percentage of women were the first to purchase and read this book. Truly the objective was met to "provide a platform for discussions and learning" (Preface xii) so priesthood leaders will better prepare prospective elders, and thus we may all be edified.
I Have so many books in my collection that the last couple of years I have taken up the habit of listening to audio books and taking notes. This book was so good I purchased it. There were too many principles I wanted to study in more depth.
This book exceeded all expectations! It was informative and had great depth. It is not only for the brethren but the sisters also. Every young man receiving the Priesthood should be given this book. I ordered several copies and gave them as presents to my son, my good bishop and another friend. My husband already is on the other side so none were needed for him. I am looking forward to read this volume again but with the scriptures beside me so I will enrich my spirit fully with what Elder Renlund shared. It especially resonated so well with the announcement of the Elders and High Priest Quorums melding into one. May we all learn how to minister as Jesus Christ did!
Yes very excited to soak up inspired info!!
As others have noted, this book is for everyone! I have listened to the audiobook a couple of times and then I purchased a hard copy so that my husband and I could study it together. This book was instructive and insightful. Thank you Elder and Sister Renlund for sharing your learning.
Worth reading and pondering on many of the concepts presented the book. Will help with greater understanding of issues associated with the Melchizedek Priesthood.
My husband and I read this book together. , one chapter each night. I learned information but he thought it would be a wonderful course of study for the Elders and High
Priests, and especially new converts, men and women. There's great topics that can be discussed.
LOVED this book! It's a go-to for me, now, for anything Priesthood related. More than that, it's extremely inspiring and motivating. Gave me ideas to become a better Priesthood holder, father, servant, neighbor and disciple of Christ. Additionally, my wife has listened to this book and loved it! This is a great book for men and women alike.
One of the greatest doctrinal treaties on the Priesthood ever published. I'm currently on my third time through.
Excellent book. Not only is full body given to conference addresses we have already heard over the last few years, but there are many personal inspiring stories that teach the doctrines of the Priesthood very clearly and succinctly. Highly recommended for any teacher who wants a strong, clear treatise on the Priesthood.
This book is a handbook of what the priesthood is and how it works in our lives. Elder Renlund has done a masterful job of teaching about a subject that with recent events in the church is very necessary. I would highly recommend this book to every member of the church.
