The prophet Moroni, who spent at least the last twenty years of his life alone and wandering to avoid being captured and killed, has in the latter days become one of the symbols of our religion. His statue watches over nearly every temple and has been depicted on the cover of millions of copies of the Book of Mormon in dozens of languages.
In this book, best-selling author John Bytheway suggests that Moroni's last words were both intensely personal and universally applicable. In the closing chapters of the Book of Mormon we discover a wonderful formula for surviving today's turbulent times. Moroni's topics, and even the sequence in which he shared them, become a strategy for remaining steadfast and true in our day. John suggests that whatever latter-day challenges we face, we can successfully navigate them by "likening Moroni."

This book is so appreciated by me. Reading Moroni’s chapters have so often filled me with overwhelming sadness. I think of him in his solitude reaching out to me from the dust. In this book, Brother Bytheway has truly helped me to see past the sadness I have felt to see the joy and the promise that helped to sustain Moroni. The author’s thoughtful treatment of each chapter is sensitive and thoughtful.
This was a great book to read as an accompaniment to book of mormon study. Bytheway has way of simplifying matters so they're easily understood. The book brought a unique perspective to the last days of Moroni. At the end of each chapter, the book includes a synopsis. I highly recommend this book.
I was very pleased with this book. The author has done an excellent job of shining a spot light on Moroni's messages in a new and refreshing way (even for those who have read Moroni's words many times). The author offered some very profound insights that gave me some "ah-ha" moments such as a way of looking at faith that I have not really understood before in that way. He offers some wonderful gems of quotes from the Prophet Joseph Smith, Elder Neal A. Maxwell and others that I have not heard before. These "gems" and "profound". The book is and easy read and not overly long or wordy. Both teens and adults should find it insightful and motivating. I feel this book is worth adding to you library. (I have received a free copy to give an honest review.)
I really enjoyed reading this book! John Bytheway brought out so many thoughts of Mormon and Moroni that I never thought of, things that they had to deal with that will help us in our days. We always read how strong physically and spiritually that Nephi was but I have never studied so much about the strength of Moroni before reading this book. John Bytheway writes in a beautiful way that is so easy to understand and at the end of each chapter has a small list of things we can do to liken ourselves to Moroni. There are also many quotes from apostles and church leaders that reinforce what Moroni and Mormon taught. Reading this has shown me what things I am doing well and some things that would bring me closer to my Heavenly Father and my savior Jesus Christ. This is a book where I have highlighted many parts and one I look forward to rereading.
Loved This Book! I received this book in exchange for a review for Deseret Book, and I am so glad that I agreed to do this! I thought that John Bytheway's books were for the youth, but MORONI is certainly for older youth AND adults. In fact, I felt that many of his insights and comments were especially helpful for single adults--young or older. I will certainly recommend it to my friends. This book has an easy-to-read, conversational style, with excellent quotes from past and current Church leaders. I like his format. At the end of each chapter, he gives a short synopsis to remind you of his key points. I highly recommend it.
This book took me by surprise. When I think John Bytheway, I think youth speaker. Boy was I surprised. He went into so much detail about Moroni and His trials. He went much deeper than I had expected on each topic. I learned more in this 1 church book than in all the other books I’ve read. This was definitely something I needed right now in my life- it answered so many questions and made me really think about the questions. This is not a book intended for just the youth, I think everyone should read it. It was so insightful. It was a very easy read. Highly recommended.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review and I must say how glad I am that I did. This is a small, easy to read book written in the enjoyable style that John Bytheway brings to everything he does. My feelings for Moroni and his efforts and sacrifices have been deepened as I've spent time pondering him and his teachings. I enjoyed the whole book, however, when I got to the chapter about Moroni 9 I felt like this little book became a must read. The teachings in this chapter about agency are relevant for everyone and I especially felt that any person readying themselves to serve a mission, trying to be a missionary to those around them or just wondering if their example is enough should take time to read this book. It has changed the way I look at my responsibilities and where they begin and end. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I really enjoyed this book. The author makes the scriptures very clear and easy to understand. At the end of each chapter is a box titled "Likening Moroni" with ideas on how to be like Moroni. I plan to print out each one and put them where i can see them each day to remind myself. Excellent and motivating book!
I was given this book in exchange for my honest review, and I'm so grateful for the chance I had to read it! This book was exactly what I needed. As a young single adult, living in these modern times can be really trying for our faith. But this book clearly and simply breaks down so many useful principles Moroni teaches and gives ideas for "likening" those principles to your own life. This is a powerful book that is uplifting and hopeful. I find myself thinking about the ideas throughout the day and as I face situations. I highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially to young adults in the church!
I loved how relatable John Bytheway makes these chapters of Mormon 8-Moroni 10. I really enjoyed and was enlightened by the insights he made from Moroni's writings. I especially liked how, at the end of each chapter, there's a recap of how we can liken these scriptures to our own lives. The information given is easy to understand and digest. I could definitely see using this, along with the scriptures, as part of a daily devotional or as Family Home Evening lessons for families with older children.
As always, John Bytheway has a breezy, friendly, easy-to-relate-to writing style. This book (like his others that I've read) are easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I'm looking forward to rereading it -- but with my children, so that they can benefit from the lessons given ... and so they can also learn ways to liken the scriptures to their own lives.
I have always enjoyed how John Bytheway has understood and explained the scriptures. He truly makes Moroni come alive from the pages, reminding me that The Book of Mormon IS a collection of histories -- that these people were REAL: they lived, loved, suffered, and triumphed -- and they are sharing what they learned with US, for our day. Because they knew about us and the trials that we would be faced with.
I received a complimentary ebook to review. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
Seriously, I'm going to buy a paperback copy to share with my family.
I’ve always loved Moroni’s words to us but the thoughts expressed helped me to think in a different way. John Bytheway always delivers! can’t wait to meet Moroni some day and give an accounting of how I used the Book of Mormon in my life.
I’m a big fan of John Bytheway and this book just reinforced my love of him and his writings. He thinks beyond the obvious and connects knowledge across platforms that make concepts come alive.
Moroni holds a special place in my heart as he watches over most of the latter day temples. In this book, John breaks down the “what and why” of Moroni’s writings and likened them to us in our day. Moroni knew he was writing to future generations as his kin were all gone. So what he chose to include should be of great worth to us now.
This book explains how we apply this important text and the value to can bring to our lives. It really gave me an appreciation for all Moroni was going through to bring us these precious truths. You’ll love feeling closer to this amazing scripture figure as you read this book!
As I listened to this book, I kept thinking, "I want to share this with my kids." I was glad I had it as an e-book, too, for easy referencing with them. From the first paragraphs, I was drawn in by the reality of Moroni as a real person with huge trials, that are very similar to those that many face in our day. Bytheway is accessible, but thought provoking with his mix of personal insight combined with applicable teachings of apostles, scholars, and leaders.
I truly felt this enhanced my study of Moroni's writings, and will continue to do so as I revisit it. I wanted to be better and felt inspired to take action.
Wow! Words are hard to explain about how much I loved reading this book. I have always felt sad when reading the last chapter of Moroni, who is alone and running from enemies, after witnessing and enduring so much grief. I gained from this book a deeper understanding of what he was going through and what things I can learn from him. I love Brother Bytheway's method of writing, always entertaining, and yet very informative. The book is broken down by chapters that match the Moroni chapters, with a recap at the end of each chapter reminding us of what we should have learned. When I finished the book, I went back and reread Moroni from the Book of Mormon, and then used the recaps at the end of the chapters to be sure I got all of the meaning. What a wonderful way to study. Thanks to Desert Book and Brother Bytheway for this wonderful book, which will be read everytime I finish the Book of Mormon. And now when I see Moroni on top of the temple I have a greater love of that man. He deserves to be our symbol representing who we are.
This was a very good, easy read. I loved learning things from Moroni''s words in a way I had not thought of before. I learned a new way to liken the scriptures to me. Bro. Bytheway has a great talent to engage the reader while helping them learn new perpectives on scriptures that they may have read many times. I would read this again and again and, I'm sure, learn new things that are applicable to me each time. I definitely recommend this book to those of all levels of knowledge of the Book of Mormon!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. I read it to my husband on a short trip in the car. We both enjoyed it and loved the additional insights that John Bytheway gives on so many different doctrinal topics. We especially loved the observation that was made about the sacrament and the sacrament table. We read this from my bookshelf account but felt like it has so much to offer and great for reviewing over and over again that I will be purchasing this book to have on my bookshelf at home for future reference. I am also considering buying this book for my children too.
I really enjoyed this book, but for the first time ever, this is the only John Bytheway book I would NOT recommend getting in the MP3 format. It was awesome and so full of information, but because the chapters are so short it feels like it skips around a lot. I tried reading through the physical book and it is so much easier to follow. Whether you read the physical or audio book, each chapter has great quotes and has a list of questions to reflect upon at the end. This book is very eye-opening and made me think of things I had never considered before. I really liked the book. As are most books he writes, this book is perfect for the youth, but it is also insightful and great for adults as well. This book is awesome, but get the physical version. It is a fast read and you will learn so much.
I love reading and listening to John Bytheway. He takes gospel truths and shares them in a way that I can relate to and understand. This book focuses on the teachings and writings of Moroni in the Book of Mormon so it is obviously an LDS/Mormon specific title.
In this book, John Bytheway shows us how to liken the teaching of Moroni unto ourselves. Chapter by chapter he takes us through the writings of Moroni and shares insights and strategies for how we can use the word of Moroni to navigate the challenges we face in our day. Filled with many great quotes from latter-day prophets, apostles, and leaders this is a little gem of a book that I highly recommend to all member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
This is a truly awesome book. It walks you through the last chapter of Mormon, through the book of Ethet, and then chapter by chapter through the book of Moroni. Always giving you insights. I love, love, love this book.
