Product Description

Nephi, that great hero of the Book of Mormon, is often viewed as a pinnacle of devotion: steadfastly faithful, profoundly spiritual, and unwaveringly obedient. But the beautiful passage of scripture often referred to as Nephi's Psalm reveals that, like all of us, Nephi faced his own inner struggles in this mortal existence. His heartfelt introspection demonstrates that amid the trials of life, discouragement can burden us all—but it can also be overcome.

In My God Hath Been My Support: Seven Keys to Understanding and Enduring Personal Trials, author David T. Morgan looks to the words of Nephi's Psalm to offer an inspiring message of hope and a loving call to action. Featuring tools and ideas on how to overcome adversity, increase feelings of selfworth, and endure the ups and downs of mortality, this scripture-based roadmap to a more fulfilling life is a joyous invitation to learn from Nephi how to transform sorrow into joy.

Scripturally-based, practical, and real
By , Submitted on 2018-04-07

We all know that life is difficult at times. Whether because of our weaknesses, the accidental or intentional actions of others, or merely the consequences of living in a fallen world, we will all face trials. It can be frustrating to hear that these struggles are for our own good, especially when we are in the midst of them and there seems to be no way out or no end in sight. In his book, My God Hath Been My Support, David Morgan shares a practical, step-by-step guide to accessing the Atonement to let go of the excuses and allow those trials to be a catalyst for change. As we come to trust God more because we know Him more, we are able to lean on Him through intentional, effectual prayer. Being filled with His love—the pure love of Christ—we can begin to actually love ALL men, perhaps most importantly ourselves, regardless of past circumstances. We can learn to freely forgive, as Nephi did, and leave behind all the excess baggage that resentment gathers. Ultimately we can learn to submit our will to the Father’s, freeing us to become all He can make of us. Based firmly in scriptural truth and illustrated with non-sugarcoated, real life experiences of the author, this book will give you the tools to make genuine, positive changes in your life as you and the Savior work together to turn your trials into triumphs.

Help for Everyday

The book takes some of my favorite verses in the Book of Mormon and gives them an increased application to everyday living. It is clearly written so the message is easily understood. Another favorite part of the book is it gets right to the point without a lot of unnecessary words. The only thing I didn't like about the book is it is too short. I could have used more of Dr. Morgan's insights.

This book was outstanding. It is practical and inspiring. I love the way it was organized. Each chapter has a question at the beginning, a great discussion and the key concept at the end along with some ideas for self reflection. Only read this book if you are interested in strengthening your spiritual connection and using that connection to endure the bumps in the road and mountains we must climb. I've read it 3 times and given several copies away.

i highley recommend this book

A very insightful book. Well worth the read. Gives new perspectives into our personal trials and helps us to use the gospel to help solve our problems. A new insight in looking at faith, forgiveness and trials in our everyday lives. I would highly recommend this book.

Dr. Morgan uses real life examples to make gospel principles helpful in our own lives. His seven keys to understanding and enduring personal trials are outlined in the book and written in such a way that it is easy to apply to my own life. I like how he states the key concepts and lists questions for self reflection at the end of the chapters. It makes it easy to look back and study in more depth the principles that are best to focus on for your life. I enjoy his down to earth style of writing. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is struggling or going through trials.

Highly recommended!

This is an excellent book! My favorite part is how he describes the Savoir. "I believe Jesus Christ's most magnificent characteristic is His capacity for love. I also believe His love for all His brothers and sisters was what motivated Him to be our Savior."

Dr Morgan has much experience in helping people with their problems. In this book, he shows how the gospel can help with all our problems.

If you want a more practical understanding of the gospel and how it can help with real-world problems, this book is what you're looking for!

Loved this book! Character improvement is an overwhelming concept, but Nephi faced the same challenge. Brother Morgan helps me connect better with Nephi, and recognize how to apply simple principles in my daily living.
It's a short book that will bless me, my children and people going through challenges that i'd like to offer help to.
Chapter 7 on forsaking sin is particularly insightful.

Wonderfully inspiring

This book has inspired me to embrace my challenges and find joy in everyday living. Dr. Morgan uses his expertise as a psychologist and his passion for the Book of Mormon to teach and guide his reader through trials that inevitably come as a result of living in this world. He reminds us that trials are for our benefit and experience in a loving, uplifting way. Now when I read about Nephi, I have a new set of ideas to apply those scriptures to my life. This book is very readable and the short length encouraged me to apply what I learned right away.

This book has been particularly inspiring for me at a time when I have been struggling through significant issues on multiple levels. The authors ability to help me see the situations through a broader perspective and see the hand of the Lord in my life has been invaluable. I could not recommend it more to any reader. There is a lot of faith specific reference however truth is truth and I can only see benefit to the sincere reader

Dr. Morgan's book is a quick Sunday afternoon read, but he has some insights that I hadn't considered before, that I found valuable. In discussing self esteem, he suggests that it is not a complete concept, but how our self worth is connected to our divine worth. He also points out that if our Heavenly Father knows us better than anyone else, and is still willing to love us unconditionally and help us, we can't be that bad, so we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves. He introduced a fresh perspective on prayer. If God is omniscient, why does he ask us to pray and tell him about our concerns and desires, which he already knows? Dr. Morgan discusses why God must want us to pray. Another concept that gave me new understanding was that the Lord may sometimes deliberately overload us. Without further understanding, those overloads can lead to resentment or anger toward God. He knows it may be more than we can bear, IF we were handling it alone. Those overloads are meant to remind us to NOT go it alone, but to seek the strength of our Heavenly Father to get us through. Dr. Morgan's book is a message of hope, and was well worth my time, and I find myself turning back to it to ponder his points again.

Great tools for handling today's trials and likening the scriptures to ourselves.

This is a great book because it teaches on many levels. Yes, it does provide insights and helps to deal with life's many challenges. But, it also provides strong examples of likening the scriptures to ourselves. It shows how the scriptures relate to us, today, in our situations and can provide spiritual guidance to handle any situation. Well done David. Looking forward to your next book.

The author shares 7 key concepts to understanding and enduring personal trials
By , Submitted on 2018-01-23

The author begins his preface and then introduction sharing a personal story, a little bit about this family, and his dealings with self esteem with being a psychologist. He states that the principal chapters in this book each contain key concepts related to how we can develop greater spiritual strength. At the end of each chapter the key concept is reiterated and questions for self reflection are also included.

“If you truly seek for direction in how to improve your life, the Holy Ghost will provide individualized and ideal feedback regarding the potential paths of change. Following the promptings of the Holy Ghost will improve your quality of life and lead to greater happiness and peace. It will also help you be more confident as you deal with challenges and will give you an increased depth of understanding of Heavenly Father’s plan for you.”

The author shares 7 key concepts to understanding and enduring personal trials, including answering questions like, “What does it mean to truly love someone?”, “What are the purposes of prayer?” “Why are we required to forgive all people?”.

I found this book very easy to read, had clear examples and scriptural support, personal stories and examples. With it only having 10 chapters, this would be an easy book to read with a family member or to use as a daily or weekly scripture study and journal. I really liked it!

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

easy to relate to the way he taught and presented things
By , Submitted on 2018-01-22

I love reading fiction, especially clean romance and clean young adult titles. I’d spend all my time reading just those kinds of books but I know I should branch out and read other good books. So this year I have set a goal that at least 10% of what I read be personal development and self-improvement books. So one in every ten titles will be something non-fiction and likely LDS related.

My God Hath Been My Support is one of those books. I was actually surprised at how much I ended up loving this book. There are a few beliefs I have head throughout my life that he challenged and his words ultimately helped me to see the folly in my way of thinking. This book was very motivational for me and I found it very easy to relate to the way he taught and presented things. Obviously, this is a book targetted at an LDS/Mormon audience. If you are part of that targetted audience I recommend you read this book.

This is a short book and a fast read but it’s packed full of great stuff!

This is a pretty short book (less than 100 pages) but it is not a quick read. I mean, I guess you could read it in a few hours, but I don't know how much you would get out of it if you did it like that. Instead, I think this book is meant to be read one chapter at a time, giving yourself time to ponder and honestly answer each of the questions that are given at the end of each chapter. The author uses a lot of scripture references - usually about Nephi - to show the reader examples of how we can get through our own personal trials, no matter how big or small they are. This book would be a great addition to your daily scripture study as you read the scriptures referenced in each chapter and study them more in depth.

Like most of the non-fiction books that I've read in the last few years, this book now has several pages marked so I can go back and reference areas that really jumped out at me, such as "Hatred is such a damaging emotion, and it usually harms the person who feels it more than the object of his hatred." This book is filled with information on prayer, anger, forgiveness, and being humble, to name a few. I found so many good ideas in this book, and plan on adding this to my "come back to over and over again" shelf.

Easy to read non-fiction that doesn't feel like it's preaching to you

I wanted to read this book mainly because each and every one of us have challenges arise in our lives and we all need to know how to best deal with them and move on. With our faith in tact. Sometimes that's a bit of a challenge.

I was happy with what I found in this book. I found a book that gives great tips from the scriptures, conference talks and the authors life on how to get through life when it's hard. I liked the way the author writes this one. He writes in a way that is easy to read and you don't feel preached at as you're reading it.

The author did a great job with this book. If you're looking for a way to get through the hard stuff you're going through, I recommend reading this one!

My God hath been my Support

This uplifting, inspiring "quick read" book is directed at an L.D. S. audience.
The author, a psychologist, lists and develops several important concepts to entice us to live closer to Our Heavenly Father's Spirit and peace and joy in our own lives.
He instructs us how to grow closer to God, how to love others more perfectly, how to pray more meaningfully, live our lives without guile, make correct choices, recognize and be wi8lling to overcome personal weaknesses, plus more!
At the end of each chapter, he lists the concept and thought questions to aid in accomplishing these goals.
This author's writing never drags and occasionally slips in humorous statements. It is totally captivating to the reader.
I give this literary work a Five Stwars rating.
