My Soul Hungered and My Stomach Growled!
by Hank Smith
Popular speaker and teacher Hank Smith confesses that when he was growing up he had a really hard time fasting. He kept hoping that somehow there had been a typo somewhere and that instead of fast and testimony meeting, it was really supposed to be feast and testimony meeting! Whenever he fasted, he found himself being irritated and grouchy and just downright miserable.
Through the years, Hank gained a testimony of fasting and its purpose. But his earlier experiences helped him realize the effects of being spiritually hungry. “Just as our bodies hunger for food when we are fasting, our souls hunger for daily nourishment,” says Brother Smith. “If you’re not praying, studying the scriptures, and going to the temple, it’s like letting the battery on your cell phone run down. You get grouchy and depressed and start questioning your testimony. Your spiritual batteries need recharging, too.” He quotes Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, who says that if we don’t seek the crucial bread of eternal life, we may be choosing to be “spiritually malnourished, willfully indulging in a kind of spiritual anorexia.” With his trademark humor, inspiring stories, and enlightening quotes, Hank Smith once again shares a message that youth will relate to and remember.

I have five children... the oldest two are 14 and 12 year old boys. My older boys have reached the age where our communication is grunts and occasional eye rolls... this CD is not only entertaining but it created an actual conversation with my sons that I will treasure. We received this CD right before football season and by the end of football season I had all of the boys I drive during carpool asking to listen to the goofy guy (sorry Brother Smith). If you can get a carload of tough teenage football boys to request you over loud music than you definately deserve 5+ stars!!!

This is a fantastic CD! Well worth it! You'll listen to it over and over again. Brother Smith uses his gift of humor and insight to teach importance of the fast. He really makes you think and gives you user friendly ideas for improving your own fasting experience. It's a great gift especially for youth... but adults really like it as well.

I purchased Hank Smith's, Be Who You Are around Christmas time, the next time I was at Deseret Book I purchased the remainder of his CD's. Our family really enjoys the talks. Additionally, I am the Young Men's President in our ward; we listen to these CD's anytime we are traveling. The YM enjoy the CD's as much as the leaders.

I am an employee at the Seagull Book in Layton and one of our biggest sellers is anything by Hank Smith. Hank sells himself and every time our customers hear the CD's playing overhead, they ask "who is this?" And usually they end up walking out with a CD.
As a mom of 4 kids ranging in ages from 16-5, we ALL agree Hank is our "go-to" CD of choice whenever we drive anywhere. My husband even took this one in his carpool and all the guys were cracking up. I hope Hank knows how fabulous and talented he is and that he has a way of sending such great messages to families of all ages.
I have no problem recommending ANY of Hank's CD's...a worthy investment that we have listened to dozens and dozens of times.

Brother Smith is hilarious and really shows how and why we should 'Break up' with worldy things and replace them with gospel rich things. You feel real inspired to live your life in the gospel and laugh out loud as well. You will love 'Break up with the World' by Brother Smith.
