The Prophet Joseph Smith declared a person would get nearer to God by abiding by the precepts of the Book of Mormon than by any other book. While considering ways of making the precepts of this divine book more readily available to the reader, a distinguishing format was devised to isolate the doctrinal precepts and at the same time render this rather complex volume of scripture more comprehensible for reading and pondering. Not one word, letter or even a punctuation mark of the actual text has been deleted or altered in the process. Only the formatting has been enhanced by adding wider margins for notes, two type sizes, and spaces between textual subdivisions. These contextual enhancements are designed to help the reader more readily visualize the context, speaker and doctrine of the Book of Mormon narrative.
This edition of the Book of Mormon divides the text into 214 events or episodes. An event-based approach provides an alternate way to read the scripture text without the obvious intrusion of verse and chapter breaks which can obscure the narrative as it was originally written or even the continuity of doctrinal discourses. Short text headings in the margins indicate names of speakers, chronological dates, locational information and other scriptural references. These marginal annotations allow the reader to quickly and consistently place the Book of Mormon historical narrative within space and time.
I've studied the Book of Mormon for over 50 years and I've never had a better edition that this one. For comprehension of content and pondering it has no better.
I read this book in response to President Nelson's 2018 challenge for all the women of the church to read the BoM by the end of the year. Although I'd read the BoM many times before, using this wonderful format with identified dates, places and speakers helped me understand the flow of the stories and grasp doctrine like never before. It strengthened my foundational understandings and beliefs. Thank you so much!
I really love this book! I read it following the invitation to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year by President Nelson. I gained a lot of insight from reading by events! Makes everything easier to understand and more exciting!!! I Highly recommend this version of my favorite book!!!
So grateful for this new book, being able to see who is talking helped me see and understand the stories in a whole new way! It made all the difference for me and I can’t wait to buy one for each one of my children ❤️
I am not disappointed with this format of the Book of Mormon. It is so much easier to read and the side notes re: time frame and speaker is so helpful. I have been reading this for awhile now. My husband opened my copy on the table and immediately asked me to order one for him as well. He loves the same feature and was impressed with the binding which allows the book to remain open to any page.
The formatting of this book really is helpful in reading and understanding many of the events in the Book of Mormon more easily. I especially love the wider margins - great for notes and personal thoughts. Great as a personal study copy of scripture - I plan on getting one for my husband.
I have purchased a copy of this version for every member of my home, extended family and several friends. The formatting of this version has made even the Isaiah chapters of Nephi easier for my children to understand. The text reads in story form (without any changes to the words from the original) and is formatted so you know exactly who is speaking, when. You will love this "new approach." Don't hesitate to buy it.
This reformatted version of entire Book of Mormon text is now my favorite print reader’s edition of the BM as it’s makes the events (rather than chapters), speakers (rather than verses), and time and location more apparent. Larger page layout, single column, with wide margins (rather than two column, tightly condensed, packed with footnotes) helps me compenhend better the storylines and teachings.
