Our gospel study group just finished reading/discussing Julie K. Nelson's insightful book "Parenting with Spiritual Power" and found it so applicable to our lives that most of us ended up buying additional copies for extended family members. There are so many golden nuggets that are uncovered here! A longtime Gospel Doctrine teacher, Sister Nelson has taken the families in the scriptures and likened them unto ourselves in easy-to-digest language. With amazing clarity and profound insights, she takes the trials and lessons of scriptural parents who followed God and gives us principles to use in our own families. Whether you are a parent with small children, a parent lovingly navigating with your teenagers in today's world, a grandparent who wants to keep your family close, or a loving aunt/uncle who hopes to find ways to be an righteous influence, you will find dozens of specific ways to apply the teachings of the scriptures. As a study group, we especially enjoyed the extra discussion questions in the back of the book and the review of principles at the end of each chapter. The mix of Sister Nelson's real life parenting examples, quotes from apostles and prophets, and the lessons from the men and women in the scriptures make this a book that we will read again and again as our children age and we do too. Highly recommended!

I completely love this book! Julie is an extremely talented writer who illustrates great parenting principles from scriptural, personal, and familial perspectives. Her ability to use powerful illustrations elevates parenting above a “sacred duty” to a joy! I especially enjoyed Chapter 15 – Joshua and the Twelve Stones: The Power of Memorials. In it Julie gives further insight into her relationship with her father and how his righteous parenting influence helped shape her life. Using the scriptures as a guide she shows us how we can partner with Heavenly Father to develop personal parenting success. Julie’s description of her daughter Rachel’s boating accident was poignant and illustrates the power of faith. This book will touch your heart and soul and give you positive practical counsel on how to successfully parent in today’s challenging world. Julie’s ability to communicate is phenomenal and I heartily recommend this faith promoting parenting guide to everyone!

There are many wonderful examples shared in this fantastic book! I really enjoyed discussing each chapter with my hubby as we read it together. I also love the conclusion and discussion questions at the end of the book. Parenting with Spiritual Power is very uplifting and full of encouragement. Being a mom of three precious boys I'm so thankful Heavenly Father provided the scriptures as a spiritual road map to help us with raising children. Julie K. Nelson thank you for this beautifully written book that my whole family loves! What an incredible idea to examine the lives of parents in the scriptures and the parenting principles we can learn from them.
