Product Description

Sahar Qumsiyeh was born into a loving Christian family in Jerusalem and raised in Beit Sahour, near Bethlehem. Growing up in a country torn apart by political upheaval, Sahar struggled with feelings of hopelessness and anger as she watched her people being persecuted, tormented, and even killed.

As a young adult, Sahar received a scholarship to an American university. While there, she was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But staying true to her new faith was put to the test when Sahar returned home to Palestine.

In Peace for a Palestinian, Sahar shares her experience desperately searching for peace and joy only to find that true peace lies not in external resolution but in following the Savior. As she explains, "We may live in a place with barriers, checkpoints, and restrictions, but we can feel liberated by His Atonement."

Whether your own obstacles are great or small, Sahar's message will help you discover that the true source of peace and comfort is the same for all of us.

Amazing history to share
By , Submitted on 2018-11-03

As is written in the book: "Growing up in a country (Palestine) torn apart by political upheaval, Sahar (the author) struggled with feelings of hopelessness and anger as she watched her people (Palestinians) being persecuted, tormented and even killed (by Israeli soldiers and settlers),,,"
I strongly recommend to translate this book to Spanish too to be distributed all over Latinamerican countries and between the Spanish speaking members in USA.
I was really surprised and opened my eyes after reading this book to know what really happens at this Palestine/Israel territory that most of the world people don´t know.
After reading this book I have confirmed that Israeli people were the chosen People of God until they rejected His beloved Son Jesus Christ as the Messiah.

I rejoiced when I saw "Peace for a Palestinian" in the bookstore. We have known Sahar since we spent time in her ward in Jerusalem not long after her baptism. We had great love and respect for her even before we were aware of the difficult life she had had growing up in Bethlehem under the dreadful conditions existing in Bethlehem and all of Palestine. We had heard her story of the miracle of her forgiveness as she was finally able to forgive those for whom she had had so much hatred in her heart because of the brutality and unfairness of her oppressors. We have loved and admired her as she continued to be true to her profound testimony during the years that she was gaining her education and giving so much of herself to those around her and specifically in her LDS Church service. Her story needed to be told, first, to bring attention to the difficult circumstances the Palestinians have been and still are in a state of occupation by the Israelis. And also, and even more important it s to read of the strength of her testimony as she faced cruel and unfair treatment and yet came through it with love for those who so despitefully abused her, her family. and her nation. This book should be read by everyone, but is especially appropriate a family setting such as family home evening where it can be explained and discussed. There is much there that we all can learn from.

This book is one of the most fascinating and "eye-opening" stories I have ever read. I learned so much about the situation in Palestine and the conflicts with the state of Israel and the effects of the hatred, bloodshed and prejudice on one little girl who grew up into an amazing woman who became a convert to The Church. I felt the Spirit speaking to my heart very strongly as I read this book. Sahar Qumsiyeh's testimony and faith are so strong and stayed strong when she went through many difficulties - just to attend church, to get employment, as well as strong prejudice against the LDS Church by her beloved mother. I said Sahar's faith & testimony stayed strong through her difficulties ; I correct myself to say that her faith & testimony became stronger with each challenge.. As this story unfolds, the reader learns so much about the social, economic, political situation in Palestine and Israel. I never would know so much about those things if I had not read this book. Thank you Sister Qumsiyeh for sharing your amazing story!

Several years ago we took a tour to the Holy Land. Our director was definitely a Palestinian sympathizer, and our native tour guide had been born and lived in Jerusalem, but was a Palestinian. The economic plight of the Palestinians was terrible since because of the wall they were not able to get to their former places of employment in Jerusalem. The main industry in Bethlehem seemed to be the home industry of carving olive wood figures of the nativity. Our kind tour director had made arrangements for our tour to eat at a cafe in Bethlehem, hopefully adding a little to the economy of the town.
.
Reading the book brought all of this back to our memories. An amazing read by an amazing woman from an amazing family. As shared the stories of getting around the wall, etc., in order to make it to church, it brought our visit to the area back to life forus.

A great read for anyone interested in the history of the area and her peoples in modern times, as well as an appreciation for Sahar's personal story.

As 3 of our children have come and gone from the semester program at the BYU Jerusalem Center, we felt like we had a pretty good idea of the difficulties in the Holy Land. After reading Sahar's book, our understanding is so much more full and enriched. She has a gift of telling her inspiring story in a way that the reader understands gospel principles and attributes more completely. Living in the USA, sometimes we take for granted the small, simple things, that for someone living in an area of constant conflict comes at a very dear cost. What a beautiful way of writing an autobiography. We are all here on earth to take the things we have learned and share those things with others. These attributes are so well explained as she has lived her life in and outside of the gospel. She is an example of womanhood and of a woman of profound, deep faith. I asked myself, as we read each night, if I could have that kind of faith. We would recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy a perspective of being raised a Christian Palestinian, who joined the church and with much opposition held to the testimony she had to have to endure.

Eye-opening

Even though I lived in Jerusalem for a few months and learned the history and spoke with the people there, this was still an eye-opening book for me. Sahar is truly an amazing example of a strong, smart woman who has experienced so many things that are completely foreign to most people. It's inspiring to learn more about her story and to see how her beautiful faith in the Savior brought about great changes in her life and heart. Thank you Sahar for being a light everywhere you go and for everyone who reads your book!

LOVED it!

I really enjoyed this book. I listened to it in the audio book format and would recommend that to everyone since it is so nice to hear the author read it herself with her light accent and you can feel the emotion and her love and heart behind everything she says. She is such an inspiration! I really just want to give the author a hug and talk with her. She seems like such a nice person and she has so much to teach. This book really makes me appreciate all the things I have in life, especially the freedoms we have. There is seriously no excuse to not make it to church after seeing all she went through to simply worship in church. This book opens your eyes to how much we have and how much we complain about where there are others who have it so much worse. It makes you value your life and the things we have so easy that much more. The most important message in this book is something that Sahar dsicovers with time, that peace is not found in external sources, but is found in Christ. This book is perfect for anyone, I would recommend it to adults and young adults. This is a great read and I highly recommend it!

Don't miss the opportunity to read this book!

Sahar Qumsiyeh's book, Peace for a Palestinian, is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a new perspective while strengthening and broadening their own testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. This book touched my heart on so many levels. Not only have I gained a greater understanding of the harsh realities of day-to-day life in Palestine, but Sahar's well-written and thought-provoking personal experiences have given me new insights about the vast scope of the mission of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and my own relationship with him. I came away with a deeper understanding of the true source of peace and joy

An uplifting, life changing read!

I learned so much from this book (that I couldn't put down...)--not only about historical and current world events, but about what it means to gain and live a testimony. This book made me grateful for what I have, and inspired me to live my testimony more deliberately and with gratitude. I think this book has things to teach everyone--from youth age to my 92 year old grandmother, who I'm going to buy a copy for!

What an incredible story by an amazing woman of faith! We had the opportunity to meet the author, Sahar when we were visiting the Holy Land, and we were so impressed with her. I couldn't wait to get my copy of the book to read more about her. The story of her conversion, and her struggle to be able to live her religion and attend church in Jerusalem as a Palestinian Mormon is nothing less than miraculous. She literally had to put her life in God's hands at times to do something as simple as attending sacrament meeting. Many other times she was turned away by Israeli soldiers who wouldn't let her through checkpoints even though Jerusalem was literally the country she was born in--she wasn't allowed to enter. I was fascinated by her description of what life is like for Palestinians living in Bethlehem, and the difficulties they face on a daily basis. I learned a lot about the struggle they face without a true homeland. I especially love the way that Sahar was able to find peace amid the many conflicts and war that surrounded her, and how she was able to forgive the soldiers who had been so unkind to her on more than a few occasions. It truly takes a Christlike person to be able to not only forgive, but love your enemies and those that persecute you. Sahar is that type of person! I'm so grateful she wrote this book and shared her story. It's an amazing story of faith, hope, love, redemption, and forgiveness.
