Amazing story line

Very entertaining movie that has been repeated several times in our family!

Who ever heard of a returned missionary wanting to have sex with his/her fiancé, hanging out in a bar just to talk to his mother (who, by the way, works there), and a Mormon with shaved head, piercings and tattoos? And, if that is not enough for you, how about Bishops talking about how great sex is, and BYU coeds eloping to Las Vegas? Singles ward may be silly but at least it had real characters. Please leave LDS movie making to Utah filmmakers. That part about the church 'taking' our tithes if we don't pay voluntarily and the 'Bully Squad' was ridiculous and a total misrepresentation.

Why an LDS Girl Showing Cleavage?
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

I felt so encouraged that I am not the only commenter who was turned off at being ambushed by images of a young (LDS!) woman's exposed chest cleavage. (See: "Didn't Like the Cleavage" May 12, 2008.)
Why in blazes does LDS Cinema sometimes seem to insist on embedding their movies with spice from Babylon? It is just so needless. Even old (non-LDS) Hollywood movies often proved that there was no need to use foul image content to make poignant stories.
I don't understand why so many directors and producers feel the need to compromise standards. It is needless, cheep.

Pleasantly surprised

It looks like I'm a little late, since this movie came out 4 years ago. But before I watched it, I had only heard negative critiques. I am glad to say, overall, I was pleasantly surprised.
What I've noticed in the reviews is that some people say the characters are totally unrealistic, while others say the characters are just like people in real life. So, I think it depends on the viewer's perception and experience.
I'm not sure what people mean when they say "bad acting". I was actually impressed with the lady that plays the non-member mom, because she plays righteous women in every other LDS movie. My favorite was the guy that played the best friend. His character is so...awesome!
This movie isn't my most favorite, but it's certainly not my least favorite. It definitely has its virtues.

Best movie i have ever seen!
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

i don't understand why everyone is hating this film, i watched this movie last night with my mother, and it was the most emotional movie i have ever seen. Great movie, EVEN greater message. everyone whom i know loves this movie. and the part of the movie where he is hanging out in the bar at the beginning weirded me out a little but, i watched the rest and it made sense why he was there, and for you people who hate this movie and get angry at him staying at the bar, he was waiting for his mom to get off work so he can talk to his mother and try to teach her, that's what his mission was, in which the lord told him isn't it. he had 60 days to teach his mother of the gospel. would you not do that for your own mother, i would to have her learn

What was that?

I went into this wanting to like it. However, this is unquestionably the worst LDS-themed movie I've ever seen.

Some of the people commenting on how great this movie is must be seriously deprived of any entertainment. This movie makes The Fast and The Furious (worst movie I'd seen before this) look like Oscar material.

Save your time and money. The old missionary filmstrips are a thousand times better.

worth seeing

So many reviews were critical. I expected the acting and production quality to be low. I was pleasently surprised and even let the video store hit me with late fees so I could watch it a few more times. Think about what is otherwise available for viewing. It is wonderful that production companies invest there time and money in films like this. Not a thing to be critical about here, though others have, some within reason.

I bought this movie so my teenage sons might get inspired to serve a mission. I expected it to be uplifting and a 'feel-good' movie.

I actually have it tucked way back in the bookshelf. I would say rent it before you buy it. It might be what someone needs, but not us!

Good movie!

I am suprised by the reviews! This was no high budget hollywood film but it was good. This movie was funny, sad, cute...all in one, with a good message to boot!

Not too bad

I thought this was a pretty good movie. I was actually supriesed that the end. It could have been a little better though, the characters tended to be a little frustrating to watch.

Very powerful and very true among the way some Lds people lives play out... Very touching.

Makes me want to Return with Honor

What an great movie! And the ending will leave you shocked! I never saw that one coming!

A real tear jerker

Although the acting was a bit cheesy, I really like the message and the ending was a big surprise. I would recommend watching it.

Thought provoking..

This movie was amazing! One of the themes seemed to be that you can never judge a person until you have talked to them and know where they are coming from. Its also a bit of a tear jerker for those that are really into romance.

Great as a return gift for a missionary.

By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

this movie would have been really good had they not draged it out for what seemed like forever. so to say the least i was really disapointed because the potential was there but they failed to use it.

Enjoyable, but a bit difficult to follow.
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

The movie was better than okay. But, the acting and the writing left a little to be desired. If you enjoy a good popcorn drama (a movie you can sit down and enjoy), then this is it. It gets a bit intense in the message, but is overall enjoyable.

loved it

Good film.

I thought this film was fun. It made me think about how I treat the ones I love. Its worth the watch.

What the?
By , Submitted on 2015-02-25

Seriously I had been hoping that this would be a great movie in the vein of 'Best Two Years' or something like that.... My hopes were dashed within the first few minutes. This film is so rediculous and poorly acted it makes me wonder if any of the people involved were LDS. I certainly think that the screenwriter could have taken some time in a gospel doctrine class. I wonder if they even spoke to a singles ward Bishop. That scene made me cringe. , I know that this is an LDS film about LDS issues and culture, but that doesn't make it a good movie. I feel disheartened that this film has garnered any positive reviews. It really doesn't deserve them. This film could have been awesome. All it needed was different actors, a different screenplay, a different director and a sense of purpose. Yeah.... it could have been that movie however it most definitely is not.
