Sheri Dew is known throughout the Church for
her straightforward, tell-it-like-it-is style. Her
personable and engaging approach has made
her a favorite among Latter-day Saints across the
world. In this collection, she shares some of the
“simple, stunning, sobering truths” that have
become her trademark:
“When we come to understand not only who
we are but who we have always been — and
therefore who we may become — the choice
between following Christ or embracing the
world is really no choice at all.”
“The only way to be happy is to live the gospel.
It is not possible to sin enough to be happy.”
“We are here to influence the world rather than to
be influenced by the world. If we could unleash
the full influence of covenant-keeping women, the
kingdom of God would change overnight.”
Paired with inspirational images in a beautifully
designed gift book, her unflinchingly honest
insights bring clarity to some of the most importantissues we face today.
Sometimes, I just can't think of what to say so it will be powerful or say what I mean with "umph". I look at this book and it immediately makes sense. I can choose just about any quote in this new book and say what I want better. The deeper meanings I intend to put across are in this book. Great for times of pondering the real impact of many gospel issues.
Whether you're familiar with Sheri Dew as an author or not, this book is sure to please. For those who are familiar with her, "Saying It Like It Is" distills some of her very best thoughts into one book. For those not familiar with her writings, this book serves as a wonderful introduction.
Sheri Dew's newest book is filled with so many powerful passages to read and savor, that it's hard to pick a favorite. Here's just one of many: "Women of God who know who they are have influence that has no limit and no end (p. 123)."
Sheri Dew is a woman and an author who reliably turns out engaging and inspiring books. What surprised and delighted me about this book is the number of lovely photos she's included from her private collection (including photos of her nieces and nephews, her siblings, LDS sisters around the world, and places that have special meaning for her). As good as Sheri Dew writes, the photos in this book infuse her writing with a life and energy that fairly radiates off the pages.
I was so moved by reading each inspiration (the book features one quote and one photo per page) that I plan to read this book together with my husband sometime soon. I think we'll have a great time discussing the gospel principles Sister Dew illuminates so beautifully. When I read anything by Sheri Dew, I am inspired to live the gospel more fully and to do everything I can to have the Spirit with me, so that I too can say it like it is whenever inspired to do so. This book is a jewel that would make a great gift for anyone on any occasion. -- Debra Woods, author of "It's Okay to Take a Nap and Other Reassuring Truths for Mothers Everywhere" and "Mothering with Spiritual Power: Book of Mormon Inspirations for Raising a Righteous Family."
I love how Sheri has a way of saying things. She speaks the truth so directly and boldly, and yet you feel so much like a good friend. I can't wait to get this book for my daughters and close friends!
