Enlightening

It was enlightening getting to read of people's conversion stories back when the restored gospel was first placed back on the Earth. The outlook from those who became a member and those who looked from the outside in. Some short accounts, some longer. Men and Women.
You get a better look at how Joseph Smith lived and the persecution of the Saints, which some of the accounts explain why they hadn't yet joined the church for fear of this said persecution. I noticed that some of the people in particular came around to the gospel only after denying it for so long. A lot of the accounts had a similar trend in that they wouldn't join any church until they knew it was the right one for them.
Missionary work was very important back then as it is now. Parley P. Pratt was one said missionary that was in a lot of the accounts having baptized a lot of people. How blessed is he!
This book is full of some amazing conversion stories!

Seed of Faith: Conversion Stories from Early Church History’ by Dan Barker

5 STARS

This book was full of good, interesting stories about Early Mormon church conversions. I had heard some of the names before in fact I think a couple of them are my ancestors. I would have to get out records to figure out how they are related to me.

A lot of the stories were taken from journals. Not all of them joined the church. It is fun to learn about history of the converts and a little about what they went through.

It makes me want to read more histories of that period. Also to read more scriptures. I know I take for granted if I want to read my scriptures. I just have to decide ebook or which set of scriptures to I want to read.

Seeds of faith deals with the time period around 1830 when Joseph Smith was getting the Book of Mormon Printed and the missionaries were out sharing the gospel and the Book of Mormon. It tells what people were doing and where they were when they heard about the Church and what they did, and felt about it.

Some of the people had a page written about them. Others had many pages about their experiences. Their are 48 journal accounts of their experiences with Joseph Smith, The Book of Mormon and other missionaries. Some of the Names are very familiar to me like Parley P. Pratt and others I had never heard of. Others like Thomas Baldwin Marsh are my own ancestors.

Seeds of Faith was well organized and easy to follow. It touched me to read these personal stories from history and made the history come to life.

I believe this is the first book of Dan Barker's that I have read but based on Seeds of Faith I would like to read some of his other books in the future.

SO WONDERFUL!

I LOVE conversion stories!

I find them very faith promoting and helpful in defining my own convictions.

I LOVE reading about miracles and visions and circumstances that shaped the thoughts and feelings of the early converts to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

These converts lived in a time of "religious liberalism vs. orthodoxy...a period of dynamic contrasts in religious beliefs, fiery sermons, and real people."

Today we call it "a time of restoration."

This book has "forty-eight journal accounts" of those that were there during this period....

You will read about their encounters with missionaries, Joseph Smith, heavenly messengers, and what has been termed as "the Golden Bible."

These accounts are from real people telling a marvelous happening in their lives...

Something that happened to them that will help "strengthen your testimony" and develop the "seeds of (your) faith."

A BOOK WORTH READING!
