Some of life's trials seem too deep for our words of comfort to have any meaning. But even in the face of such soul-wrenching griefs, there is hope.
“The gospel of Jesus Christ is not insurance against pain,” writes Dr. Carlfred Broderick, former president of the Association of Mormon Counselors and Psychotherapists.“ It is a resource in event of pain.” His unforgettable, real-life examples illustrate the matchless power of the gospel to help us rise above even abuse or injustice. A perfect gift for anyone who is going through hard times.
I bought this book in 2013 and continue to return to it for comfort and clarity. Brother Broderick had a great sense of humor that blended so well with his gospel scholarship and understanding of human nature and the plan of salvation. I highly recommend this book.
I ordered this book online and when I first received it I was very disappointed. I couldn't believe that I had spent $13 on a book so small. After reading it I can assure you it's the BEST $13 I have EVER spent! It is AMAZING! My husband and I both love this book very much. Every home should have a copy.
I love this talk but it's only an hour-long read (or less if you're a fast reader). It has previously been included in anthologies and is better bought that way. Search for "My Parents Married on a Dare" on Amazon and for the same price you can get this talk along with a bunch of other talks/articles by Carlfred Broderick. I'd suggest buying it from Deseret but they apparently no longer offer it.
This marvelous little book helped me to understand why we all have the different trials that we go through in this life. Dr Broderick puts it all in perspective for us. Easy to read over and over again. It's great to share this marvelous books with others too.
Really loved this book. A short read with a very powerful message of hope. I've recommended it to friends especially in need. The author gives a new or renewed perspective about challenges and trials, why we have them and how we can better manage them & ourselves. Even in the worst of times & situations, there is a light & a reason, and maybe others we might help. I always believed my bout with cancer was a choice made before and now I feel it for sure. This is a great book to share with those who may be having difficulty with trials, or who may be losing hope of seeing the end of a challenge.
This is one of the best little books I have ever read. I have bought 10 copies and gave them to all of my family. There is something in this little book that all can relate too.
The review by Jason was spot on.
Brother Broderick was truly in tune with the Spirit to give such a talk...it really helped me to understand the plan of salvation and our purpose in facing the pain and trouble we face in life.
A very quick read, but with a very profound and lasting impact.
Simply put, this is one of the finest treatments on dealing with life's adversities that you'll ever read. Short and powerful. Incredibly well-written.
