After becoming an overnight success on the hit TV show American Idol, Carmen has appeared on national programs such as David Letterman, Tyra Banks, MSNBC, Today, Access Hollywood, and even NBC's Fear Factor. But along with the spotlight came many temptations and worldly pressures associated with the entertainment business. Through it all, she has stuck to her goal of staying true to the Young Women values, including modesty, chastity, and obedience to the Word of Wisdom.
In this uplifting youth fireside, Carmen teaches youth the value of remaining true to their faith and the blessings that such obedience can bring.
I thought this talk was so applicable to the youth of today. As a former American Idol contestant, I felt that every story and experience she shared is so relative to what youth are currently experiencing and I love the focus she gave to the For The Strength of Youth pamphlet.
With a title like "Who's Your Idol?" you might think this was going to be a talk about the Savior. It's not. It is about modesty and a little bit about not drinking. Which are both good things, but I wish it had been more focused on the Savior, and not just a little shout out at the end.
Still, I enjoyed hearing about her time on American Idol, and this would be helpful to that young woman who doesn't have much of a grasp on the gospel at this point be more modest.
I think all youth who listen to this fireside talk will enjoy Carmens teachings.
