This harmony is based on the idea that the greatest life we can study is that of Jesus Christ. There are only four authentic accounts of his mortal life and these are known as the Four Gospels, i.e., Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Since each writer had his own unique style and emphasis, any effort to truly study the life of Christ must include the complete study of all four gospels. One of the tools to help in this study is a harmony. Harmonies are based upon the Gestalt principle that the whole of anything is greater than the sum of its parts. Since each gospel represents a part, the greater message of the life of Jesus can only be seen when all four are arranged together.
