This particular edition of the Book of Mormon seems to have struck a resonant chord among readers. From the moment they feel its luxurious cover and see the brilliant gold gilding on its pages, readers are compelled to open its pages and begin reading the contents. The book opens with a 32-page introduction, the most comprehensive of any edition of the Book of Mormon. It describes the full background on the coming forth of the book and its translation process using insights gained from some of the earliest documents available. It walks the reader through the features of the book including a 3-page “how-to-use-this-book” primer. Filled with art, images and color, every page is colorful. From the cover-art to the rich 60lb coated “silk” pages in between, this edition bears unfailing witness of Him who is our loving Savior and Redeemer. Its unique appeal stems in no small part from the fact that, its "appeal-to-authority" is not that of the scholars, but rather the authority of scripture, Prophets and Apostles. Placing an exclamation point after their words, rather than a question mark. For readers of the Book of Mormon who are not familiar with Annotated Bible editions, this format is a new concept, making it a first-of-a-kind in the LDS world. The familiar text (1920 edition) has been treated in three unique dimensions: First, LITERARY treatment of the text; Second, addition of 250 "INSIGHTS" pages; Third, use of vast amounts of COLOR in a variety of forms. The cover of the SECOND edition is slightly different from the FIRST edition as shown below: Note the removal of the lines above and below the TITLE BLOCK (as requested by IRI) Font style of TITLE Block has changed and the Words “ANNOTATED EDITION” are larger The content of the familiar text has not been altered, but the formatting and literary presentation of the text has been revised and enhanced extensively. Readers will note that red is for words of deity, blue is for angels and blue italics for Old Testament prophecies. Also, verses combine into coherent paragraphs, new descriptive headers appear within chapters over each new thought. Verse numbers are superscripted; poetical stanzas shown in their Hebraic forms; quotation marks and indentation and bold text and underlines identify voices of speakers, and much more; Ancient Hebraic writing forms such as psalms, chiasmus, parallelisms, etc. are shown in-context along with font color changes which establish textual hierarchy. Ten years in the making, this volume gives powerful testimony to the fact that the Book of Mormon is indeed a rich Hebrew literary masterpiece centered on the savior Jesus Christ and translated through the gift and power of God. The chief-editor of this edition, David R. Hocking of Raleigh, North Carolina, began the project as a way of enhancing his own family’s study of the Book of Mormon.
