The Journal of Discourses is a collection of more than 1,400 sermons of Latter-day Saint leaders printed between 1853 and 1886 in twenty-six volumes. Most of these addresses were delivered by Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Heber C. Kimball, Orson Pratt, and George Q. Cannon, each mentored personally by the Prophet Joseph Smith. This new leather-bound edition includes a four-volume index containing over 100,000 scriptural and topical entries highlighting the doctrinal themes taught by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Authors Richard C. Galbraith and Stephen W. Liddle are the creators of scriptures.byu.edu, escrituras.byu.edu, and the Scripture Citation Index for both iOS (Apple) and Android (Google) devices. In his preface to volume 3, Orson Pratt opined, “Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives, their children’s children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life.” In his preface to volume 18, Joseph F. Smith stated, “We anticipate a time, not distant in the future, when a copy of the present volume will be more precious than gold.”
