The original meanings of the Greek word "pistis," translated in the English New Testament as "faith," described a relationship of trust and covenantal faithfulness and included "knowledge" and "understanding." Early Christian theologians interpreted faith to mean that salvation comes through belief only and added doctrines including predestination and original sin. The Book of Mormon and revelation given to Joseph Smith and prophets of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have restored the original understanding of faith.
