Paulette Preston Yates
Paulette Preston Yates, better known as Polly, is a retired teacher and an avid writer. She graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor of arts in English and a minor in speech. After obtaining her degree in 1965, she taught middle-school English and writing in the Jordan School District for more than 30 years. The Utah State Legislature recognized Polly in 1993 for Distinguished Service in Education. She retired from teaching in 2006; after her retirement she worked fo rBrigham Young University—Idaho supervising student teachers.
Because of her love for family and writing, she has devoted much of her free time during retirement to sharing her family’s stories through various written works. One self-published project isa book entitled A Chronicle of Christmas Miracles, which recounts miraculous family experiences that occurred during past holiday seasons. Another takes place during World War II and is based on love letters written from her father to her mother during the war.
When she is not writing, Polly finds joy spending time with her family. She also loves to travel and will jump at any opportunity to see a different country or state. Some of her favorites have been Hawaii, China, and Korea.
Polly and her husband, Bryan, reside in a little piece of heaven in Riverton, Utah. They have four sons and seven grandchildren. Polly does not like to follow a recipe, her slappy dance is the best, and she hums when she is happy, which is most of the time.
